Roughly a month before its November 9 release, a pirated version of Halo 2 began to be widely circulated around the Web. Now, it seems the game is once again falling into gamers' hands earlier than Microsoft and Bungie had planned.
Numerous reports surfaced today from the Midwest claiming several retail chains had broken Halo 2's street date. Several reports on the Gaming Age forums--which included photos of the limited edition of the game--said that several individual Meijer stores, a self-described "grocery and general merchandise retailer" that operates in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky, were selling the game early. Outlets in Toledo, Ohio, were mentioned specifically.
However, calls made by GameSpot to several Meijer outlets made it sound like the franchise was sticking to the deadline. "Halo 2? That doesn't go on sale until next week," was the typical response. Regardless, people have already gotten their hands on copies of Halo 2 from somewhere, because several "in-hand" copies of the game are already on sale on eBay, some with options for next-day shipping.
While unfortunate, especially given the logistics of shipping a game of Halo 2's scale--for which preorders are reportedly nearly 2 million--these sorts of leaks are increasingly common. And although it can be assured that Bungie and Microsoft are less than pleased gamers are pumping Covenant Brutes ahead of schedule, the two companies aren't letting on. The mantra "Microsoft doesn't comment on rumors or speculation." was once again uttered by reps for the company when queried by GameSpot about the retail date break.

I was in a store TODAY, Sat Nov 6, and watched 5-6 people come in and themselves a copy of Halo 2, Regular edition, for 79.95, cash only no cc's. The owner kept telling them, look come in monday around 5pm and you will get it for the regular 50, but if you want it now, 80+ tax. but they kept coming. I think it was one of the places selling it on ebay.

Dont know what your rage stems from but I can tell you that the FRENCH and PAL ENGLISH as well as the US NTSC that have been released are all 100% retail. Even Bungie have stated the FRENCH one was from a plant where they were stamping out the copies for final release. Ive read enough posts from several places to know that each of those 3 releases are one and the same (game content) with the exception of the obvious language/subs/region differences.
Either way, the game will be available to the masses for sale in just a few days so its all good.

The thing I don't understand is how come so far only 2 reviews are listed at gamerankings OXM and game informer, and I know EGM has reviewed it. Isn't a game of this calibur sent out for review to about every media outlet ever weeks before release?
Personally I have really negative thoughts about this game that I'll wait to see if in fact I have played the retail version but I've played through both the French and English leaks and they're identical as far as I can tell barring language, and I'm thinking they're final. I've also read that cutscreen popin is still there, some ugly stuff going on in this game.
The commercials for this game (which is actual game cutscene footage) looks a hell of a lot crispier than whats out there. It pissed me off to see how the ads make the video look so silky smooth and pretty when it actually is not. Its like watching a dvd on the commercial and having the VHS in the game. pretty pathetic.
I've seen the game informer review and there's a screenshot in it taken from a level not even in the faggoty french beta build. I agree with KA. Basing your opinion of a game off of a shady leak is pretty annoying. Now I have to be wary of every Halo 2 opinion I hear because I don't know how close to the real thing the leak was. I hate having to worry about stupid factors like that. As far as the facts go, I don't know, but I don't see how the game is getting 10s if it's the same as the leak.
