Star Wars Revenge of the Sith trailer... thoughts?

The lava planet scenes and Kashyyyk scenes look promising. The rebirth of Vader looks could turn out either cool or campy. Say what you will about GL, he has never failed to deliver eye candy.

Please feel free to post your thoughts/links on getting downloadable versions of the trailer. The trailer is available on AOL and Hyperspace at the moment, and I haven't been able to get a saved version. A search of every recently modified file on my hard drive returns only a small Quicktime prefetch file, so the trailer may be loaded into memory for viewing.

The scheme for episode 2, if I remember right, was to create a large garbage movie file and a tiny Quicktime header with nothing in it. The downloaded version was gotten by rebooting your system with the browser open to prevent the 2 files from being deleted, then by combining the 2 files after you boot up. I don't see anything like this going on here.

I've already read the almost complete leaked script over at milleniumfalcon, so if you want spoilers go there.

This movie will be the best of the recent trilogy, easily (though that may not be saying much :( ) .

All I know is that I can't wait for Anakin to begin slaying his fellow Jedi = teh goodness.

George Lucas is an old wrinkled dickhead coot and the new Star Wars movies are terrible pieces of unwatchable dooky.

Episode II was a hell of a lot better than Ep.I, and if Episode III improves similarly, it will nestle right underneath Empire and A New Hope in 3rd place.

Im looking forward to seeing the emporer/palpatine in action with a lightsaber. U see a brief glimpse of him in the trailer swinging his lightsaber. Rumor has it he fights Yoda as Anakin fights Obi-Wan.

That's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever read. While I don't read a lot I do sometimes read Mushiki's and Now Loading's posts (I'm a masochist), so what you've accomplished today is no small feat.

I'm not even a big Return of the Jedi fan but I can still recognize that the first two were excellent films. Episodes I and II are devoid of any substance.

EWOKS SUCK...thats the conclusion I came to after watching the ROTJ DVD. So yeah I kinda see what Zeekade is talking about. But New Hope is still a very good film. And Empire is still fantastic and the best out of any Star Wars movie to date.

It's not really a 'substance' thing...it's more of a lack of emotional content, which is amplified by some really shitty acting (Ewan McGregor aside) and some terrible dialogue, even worse than the OG trilogy. This new-school trilogy has been hampered from the get-go by the inexplicable decision to begin the trilogy with Anakin as a child. The entire story in Episode I was largely irrelevant to the saga as a whole, and I'll never understand why Lucas deemed those events in those characters' lives as worth portraying on screen. It wouldn't have even made for a half-ass Star Wars book.

Episode II was where this whole thing really began...you could have told the 'important' points of E-I in a flashback or in the crawl before the movie.

Ewoks make RotJ BLOW ASS.

The opening chase scene in Episode II set the tone for the entire movie... it was the most boring sequence of events I have ever witnessed. While it was unfolding I had time to shave my pubes, read a book, and have buttsex three times before it reached completion (the buttsex was my way of distracting myself from the horrible on-screen display, twas the lesser of two evils.)

What a big crock of shit that movie was, all the way from the horrid CG of Anakin riding that ridiculous field creature to the romance between Princess Anna Paquin and that whiney douchebag cunt who played Vader.

Like I said before you should reach into your pocket and count your lucky stars, because if it wasn't for my anti-smiley political stance you would have been kekeke'd into submission long ago.

They're perfectly comparable.

Luke's whining is unbearable throughout the entire trilogy, the script is just as bad, the acting is frequently cheesy and over the top ... everything's a predictable, by-the-numbers kid's flick.

Which is fine, by the way. Kids have a ball at the new ones.

If you like the trilogy, fine, your tastes differ from mine. But substance is an objective judgement call about the art itself, and if you think Empire has real emotional "substance", you're not giving the series an honest look...or you're just a terrible critic...

Thanks for the link... that does look like it should be the best of the new trilogy so far, but I don't think that it will be ranking up with RotJ. RotJ had some shitty parts to it for sure, but the whole final conflict between Luke and Vader kicks too much ass to be ignored, not even those Ewoks can make it suck.

Star Wars... I don't know about you guys, but I always get a chill running through my body to the scalp every time that loud and deliberate yellow "STAR WARS" title screen comes up.

That being said, while I look forward to Episiode 3, i'm not going nuts in the wait either. The amount of equally lame and cool shit in EPisodes 1 and 2 make me ho-hum about Episode 3.

BTW: Star Trek > Star Wars, any time, any location.

I thought episode II was actually pretty decent - but it just doesn't measure up to the any of the three films of the original trilogy. The chemistry between the characters isn't there, the acting isn't there, and the action just seems ... well, synthetic. Episode II was definitely a step up, but it still falls a bit short.

It's not hard to figure out why, either. In the late seventies and early eighties, Lucas had SO much riding on these films, and because of this he put a TON of effort into them to get them nearly perfect. Today, he's basically a fat cat who's content to just toss out films and rake in the dough, knowing that we'll watch it anyway, just to see the rest of the movies and satisfy our nostalgia.

You also have to remember GL only directed New Hope. If you watch the "Empire of Dreams" DVD, Harrison Ford basically said that Lucas didnt really pay attention to the actors or the acting at all. And was more focused with the technical aspects of the films. Or at least thats the impression I got from it.

I thought a lot of what they did in Episode II could have been accomplished in the first movie, Episode I.

Take out that stupid Pod race and you have a lot of room to work with. The second movie could have been easily a real, "Clone War," from start to finish. What's up with the Clone army being a bunch of Cloned Samoans(Jango Fett) anyway? I thought they were all Caucasian in the original trilogy.

I still don't see the Love chemistry between Amidala and Anakin either. How eveything led up to marriage at the end, still get's me. The whole thing just seemed rushed. You could have built this at the end of Episode I and led up to the second movie.

I can see it now, Opening Epilogue line for Episode III: Revenge of the Sith... "The Clone wars are over."

While all the movies are pretty laughable in my eyes, I really think Empire Strikes Back could stand on its own as a great film. Artistically, the direction was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking...c'mon, Bespin? It was amazing.

And yes, I realize the father "revelation" and the sad, open ending couldn't really exist or mean much without the other films ... I still feel Empire really, REALLY stands apart from the other films and could exist/thrive on its own.

Jedi die in this movie, but its mostly offscreen. Like those younglings yoda was teaching in Episode II. We see a few key characters go though.

EDIT: While anakin is called vader once he turns to the dark side, he wont look like vader we know until the end of the movie.
