While their opinions obviously don't technically matter, it's pretty fucking amazing how little support this administration has around the world, in what should have been the the most globally sympathetic environment a President has ever had to work in. If this isn't proof enough of their foreign policy ineptitude, I don't know what is.
I totally agree but it's still annoying to have people like that french idiot Waku7 go "Proove's USA aren't not assholes dont elect Bush" and then to be shown shit like that site. Where it implies that they don't respect us enough to run manage own elections as if they're doing some great service by cramming the answer to a question nobody asked right down our collective throats, as if they're some kind of parent or actually had some kind of real say in the presidential election.Quote:

A vote for Bush is a vote for further censorship and religious war. No thanks.
Right except, once Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil rise above the status of third world backwaters then perhaps their opinions on US policy will actually matter.Quote:

As for Canada I really have nothing to say except that their government has it's own systemic problems regarding it's electoral procedues and political organization as a whole. Thus they should probably focus on correcting those issues, while we focus on correcting our own internal problems.
But then again, remaining focused on the problems of other nations allows one to live in denial and perhaps ignore the potentially severe internal problems present in their own land.

*Truthfully though, and to be fair... Both sides do have some interesting ideas and since AMERICA has always been about trying something different, why not just have TWO Presidents? One with the title of Domestic President So & So, and the other entitled Foreign American President So & So. Both have the same power but focus on two different stong points. But then ppl would bitch about such a radical change, and then fight about how there could be two presidents in the white house. Maybe it's time to change the location of the H.Q. of the Pres too? I agree foreign people don't have the right to interfere in the US election, but they do have the right to express their opinion, just as much as you US people can express yours about any non-US country. Of course, for some reason most of you US people think there's nothing beyond your borders therefore you don't give a shit about what happens there. But some non-US people does care about what happens in US, basically because of the way the US uses its foreign policy that affects all the fucking world.
If the US wants the rest of the world to leave them alone, then please don't mess with other countries problems unilaterally. Oh wait, I forgot you had the support of Spain (ops, scratch that one after Ansar went down), Poland (ops, scratch that one too), UK (ops, I thought you told them in 1776 you didn't want anything from them).....
why the fuck is everone being assholes about a mock election?
I do find it funny that almost everone voted for Kerry. I mean How many people know where they stand on issues? I beat almost everone voted for Kerry because they hate Bush. To me this is like the mock elections when your in the third grade or younger, where your asked to pick someone without knowing much or anything about that person.
And what the fuck are some of you talking about?
This really suck, because you know what? Bush will win the election come election time. And do you know why? It's because Kerry seems to fuck himself over a lot and I mean a lot.
I myself really don't like Bush or Kerry to tell the truth, and you know what? I really don't give a fuck who wins. I mean will either really change anything? I really don't think so.
I guess if i were going to vote I would vote for Bush

Fuck you, I'm not going to STFU. We voted what we wanted. Ansar can rot in hell for what's worth it. You think Bush is fighting terrorism? Yeah, rightttttttttt. Terrorist organizations now have queues in front of their offices to get more suicide bombers.Quote:

Feel free to express your opinion, I will do the same instead of telling you to STFU.
Yeah, our new government is fighting against machismo, corruption, racial and sexual discrimination, etc. Is that a bad thing? It doesn't mean they don't care for anything else, I agree there are also other important things (that are also being solved), but not taking care of the "small" things too just because of that is retarded. Wait, how much money has the US spent on Iraq? How's the economy now?
Finally, there has not been any death in a terrorist attack in Spain with our new government. All the islamic terrorists from 11-M are death (most committed suicide when surrounded by the police) or in jail. Have you found Bin Laden? How many US citzens have died on Iraq? Even the Spanish terrorist organization ETA (basque separatists) is almost destroyed thanks to the detention of its leaders recently (in France, by French police: we didn't need to send our own troops there). So don't tell me we are not fighting terrorism, Rambo. We are doing it much more effectively than you, without even leaving our country and having both our soldiers and foreign civil population killed in the process.
Please for the love of god let us canadians rest easy. Vote in Kerry and not Bush. We fear Bush more than we could ever fear any member of Al Qaeda
Spanish guy, all I want to hear from you is an update on the War on Machismo.
Also it seems rather pathetic to me that Spain thinks that stepping out of the way of terrorists just so you don't get attacked is 'fighting terrorism'. Let the other guy fight it right? Such honor amongst the Spanish people. lol. And to not avenge the deaths of your innocent civilians murdered by Islamo Fascist terrorists...not to even lift a finger in retaliation, but to retreat instead, is a monumental disgrace to human dignity.
And yeah I'll comment on your election. Its a disgrace what the Spanish people did in response to that horrible terrorist attack. However I never once told you who to vote for, you have every right to vote however you want. You'd get defensive too if foreign people started saying how YOU should vote in your own country. You see the difference here? Most of the foreigners posting threads like this think they have some obligation to enlighten Americans about who to vote for, like we can't figure it out for ourselves. That's why I think someone like Scanline or Loopz is pretty cool, even though I don't vote like they do, but they atleast have the dignity to tell foreigners to just shut up when trying to tell us how to vote.

GW Bush and Clinton are the only politicians I've ever really cared for, but it has nothing to do with their ideologies (whatever they may be). Clinton cracked me up because of all the Lewinsky shit and George Bush is funny like a monkey, and we all know how I feel about monkeys. I would be worried that if GW lost the election he would fade from the public eye and we as a nation would lose out on hundreds upon hundreds of hilarious soundbites.
Yeah, right, since most of the terrorists that did the 11-M attack were from Morocco, we should have bombed it, right? Just like you did with Afghanistan after 9-11. And now you tell me what is the relation between the Iraqi terrorists and 9-11 or 11-M for that matter, even the US itself recognizes there was no relation between Al-qaeda and Saddam. Is the world a more secure place after the Afghanistan and Iraq mess? I don't think so. So don't tell me we are doing the wrong thing, because, in my opinion, you are too.Quote:

However, after 2 days it was clear they were lying and the responsible was Al-qaeda, and they would still hide the truth, because they knew this would harm them in the 14-M election.
Imagine that after 9-11, Bush says that it was caused by some terrorist organization that wants Alaska (say) to be independent from USA, and you know that he is lying, still he will insist on it. Would you still vote him?
Finally, I have NEVER told anybody who to vote for in this board, and I agree that doing so (like waku7 did) is not appropriate. However, discussion about this from everybody (no matter where they are from) should be welcome. Yes, I wouldn't like to have you interfere with my vote, and actually I do have an issue about your accusation of we Spanish people being "wrong" in what we elected 7 months ago. However, instead of telling you to STFU I am replying with my own arguments against it.
I don't really think this polls tells anyone who to vote for, it only tells the Bush administration that they have a lot of work to do if they want the image of the US in the world to get better. You cannot be the "world leader" if you are not respected by the other countries.
I think it shows that a country that presents itself as the leader of the free world should also assume that "the free world" would want its "leader" to represent and hear its "citizen" - like it or not the US today IS the leader of that free world and it should assume its position.
If one does not want to assume that responsibility then one should just be honest and present itself as an "empiristic" administration making self-centered decisions that only serve its own interests without any regard for the international community.
This makes sense, but at the same time, when foot needs to be put to ass the USA shouldn't have to spend years in "Talks" trying to get the ball moving. Like it or not DUBYA took the ball and told the UN fuckards to either decide on something and be of worth or we were going in, which we did. He didn't go balls to the wall with Afghanistan to prevent what happened to the Russians and the Brits before them in that operational sphere. ---The sound military tactic is to use SOG Teams in conjunction with Guerrilla fighters and do the "Unseen/mostly-Unheard" in that region towards finally getting Bin Laden or any more of his cronies. The IRAQ thing is just the staging ground for things to come in the future. When we initially went it, all of America was galvanized by 9-11 and wanted blood & shit blown up, now that the realization of the fact that the very "Protracted War On Terrorism" has shown that it's just that.... PROTRACTED, everyone wants to cop out and bitch. But you know what, if some terrorist piece of shit fucked up the world series you'd have a nation of blood thirsty sports watchin' hot dog eatin fast asleep citizens suddenly transformed into killing machines again, or at least people willing to vote to drop a nuke or two, or decimate all.Quote:

Part of the reason we have so many damn casualties IS because of ridiculous ROE {Rules of Engagment} laws set down by International Directives and planted into the USMJC. ---21st Century nonsense that lets the "Bad Guys" have leverage over the grunt fighting on the multiple fronts of a protracted war. But we killed 15,000 civilians removing Saddams regime.
US troops allowed the country to disolve into anarchy when the war 'ended'.
US troops have killed over 10,000 more civilians since the war 'ended'.
thats 10 civilians for every 1 US soldier killed!
Families machine gunned in their cars at check-points, Homes bombed, crowds blown up with rockets, people 'dissapearing', prisoners tortured, prisoners murdered, or held without charge. Mistakes, friendly fire, collateral damage...the list is endless.
Not even counting the deaths of emeny combattants, or civilian casualties caused by them. Suicide bombers, terrorists where there were NONE BEFORE, militants, foreign fighters, freedom fighters, religious fanatics, and the Bath party hard core all united against us.
Heres a big 'heads up' Merc!
WE ARE LOSING THE DAMN WAR!
There is no way in hell to win a war when the people who you are supposed to be fighting for know full well that you don't give a shit about them!
The US military's standing orders concerning 'if in doubt shoot', and 'don't risk American lives to save Iraqi's if you can avoid it', and the tactics of using heavy weapons to attack embedded 'militants/terrorists' in civilian areas etc, have made damn sure that we have lost any faith the majority of the general population had in our motives or our desire to 'save' them.
If you've studied military tactics, you know what a catastrophe this situation has become, and how badly the military planners have conducted it?
The US has done to parts of Iraq EXACTLY what the Russians have done to parts of Chechnya.
The US policy of 'It just needs a bigger stick' simply doesn't work!
It didn't work in Vietnam, it won't work in Iraq.
5,000,000 vietnamese died in that war, the majority civilian!
You lost 45,000
Vast swathes of that country were destroyed or poisoned.
You don't 'liberate' people if you let them die.
There is only one way to win the war in Iraq.
The US needs to show the Iraqi people that they are as important as if they were US citizens! That they have rights, that they are being protected, and that the US soldiers will protect them even if it means going in and fighting hand to hand with these militants to minimise any 'collateral damage'. These people deserve to be free, to see the US soldiers as friends, or at least as protectors.
I think its too late. I don't think we can win all the while that the Iraqi civilians are not on our side, which allows those who oppose us to act with impunity. Moreover, I dont think the US has the stomach for the losses it would take to regain the areas we've lost while placing the safety of innocent civilians above all else.
And thats all it takes for us to lose.
Every time the US drops a bomb in a civilian area, every time a civilian is injured or killed, we play right into the hands of the forces lined up against us, and their numbers swell.
Have you heard your own revised estimates of the numbers of militants/terrorists etc?
First it was a 'few hundred'
Then it was 'a few thousand'
Now your analyst's are saying 15-20 thousand!
So whats the real number?
What will it be in another month?
The UN's not perfect!
Of course not.
Far from it.
But it needs to be improved from within, not by unilateral and illegal action that flouts international law.
And history has now shown us that the UN weapons inspectors were doing their job effectively, and inspections had forced Saddam to abandon his WMD program.
I didn't want to see him left in power!
Of course not. But I didn't want to see Iraq blasted and maimed, with tens of thousands dead, plunged into anarchy and a training/recruiting ground for al-queda either!
Hell, we've given that poor country to the same bastard terrorists that we threw out of Afghanistan.
As for the French bashing! :oh_no:
You should be ashamed Merc!
What happened to a few city blocks in NY on 911, happened entirerly to BIG parts of France in WW1, and if some (not all!) of Frances sons didn't have the stomach for another world war 20 years later, who the hell can blame them?
Look at what 911 did to the American psyche?
Imagine whole cities destroyed? Cities that had stood for 1500 years, beautiful ancient irreplacable parts of the culture of the whole of humanity! Imagine seeing your culture being completely destroyed, imagine every family having lost a relative? The French weren't cowards, they just lost their way in a moment of the deepest loss. And also remember that they found it again, and even Eisenhower (and us Brits) agreed to hold back so that DeGaulle might retake Paris (albeit with the sounds of British and American Guns serenading him in the distance)
Apart from the fact that the French did fight, and even once they had lost, many many brave French men died resisting the Nazis!
And lets not forget that 'doing the right thing' didn't exactly come easy to the good ole USofA, who only entered the war late, and when the tide was already turning.
No, Britain and her commonwealth stood aganst the Nazis, for a while alone, we did it without being forced, and we sacrificed everything in the effort.
Which brings me to 'Rules of Engagement'
You know the US has its own ROE, and that compared with say... ours for instance, those ORE are VERY heavy handed!
The US NEVER follows anyone elses ROE but its own, and its aguably that very 'tradition' of overwhelming firepower and sheer crushing force being the answer to everything that has led us to this dreadful situation and the complete loss of 'hearts and minds' amonst the population that was at one time expected to greet us with garlands of flowers!
*make love not war*
Which reminds me, weren't you off to have a shag and a beer?
While I agree in principle that non-US citizens should keep out of our elections...the US is a special case.
Whoever wins this election becomes the leader of the free world...and Europe is a significant part of the free world. The decisions that George W. Bush and the rest of my government made directly affected the foreign policy of every other nation in the world. It's that simple.
The poll posted here is actually really inaccurate. Most Russians support Bush, and most Israelis (by far) support Bush.
I, personally, welcome input from other members from around the world...however don't get self righteous or think that things will drastically change if Kerry's elected. We're still going to be in Iraq no matter who wins.
You have some interesting points, and some of which no doubt make me re-look at SOME of what has happened in lieu of what the Military Strategiests had planned/mapped out. But in the end the USA is stuck there now like it or not, and we've got to lay in that bed... thus we might as well Fuck & OVERLORD that part of the world since it's FUBAR now. ---Sure WMD was the focal issue for IRAQ, and what was told to the public at large, but they {the DOD} no doubt about it, had planned to use Iraq as a "staging ground" for future missions carried out as the Protracted War on Terror as it was legitimately called is going to need a staging ground. I'm sure we {USA} had planned to be in a poistion quite similar to what the G-2 worked in unison with the Yakuza and the reformed Japanese governmental system during the "Occupation" for IRAQ. This of course got fucked in the ass because of how everything went to shit. *As far as civvies being killed over there, hey when our boys are in doubt their just damn lucky we don't send in B-52s and Drop Tactical Nukes and call it a day. The USA {at least the "BSA" types} was founded on globe trotting ass kicking, and it shouldn't change just because it's the year 2004. ---On the note of the French. The only thing I like about France is there women, {namely porn stars}, their avant garde cinema, and the FFL {French Foreign Legion}. Other than that, fuck their sentiments about their towns not being blown up, or losing their art during WWII. -although I'm a pure, proud european, with socialist ideas, I'm the first one who admits sometimes the frenc...I mean europeans(or foreigners in general) are really fucking irritating when coming here(an american board) and trying to lecture
not to mention the usual "american are bad....rugby vs football...fat...cheesburgers and blah, blah, blah"
REALLY obnxious
I always tried to have a "soft" approach when talking about politics, without acting like an asshole or falling into stereotypes, guess even the hardcore conservatives here(GunstarHero, JHndrix,..ect) can vouch for me, galfordo doesn't count..... :D jokin'..
-why people around the world care so much about US presidentials? cause it's about the election of the most powerful man on earth, the one the world balance depends on, so deal with it
-I think "some" of the éuropéans in this site should be less hypocrite and shut the fuck up
-and "some" americans less angry and silly
just realize what your country has done and still doing to the entire world
Also, the usual "who gives a shit " does nothing but making things worse, let's all try to be more costructive and sincere
-that said, Boriqua is right. those polls are unaccurate (russians, japanese, israelis are definately pro bush)and generally dont mean shit
this in a nut-fucking-shell
Well, I was going to vouch for you ... :crying:Quote:

THE RED SPECS are watching... BOO!
I read an article were Tehran backs Bush funny huh ?
By Ali Akbar Dareini
ASSOCIATED PRESS
October 20, 2004
TEHRAN, Iran – The head of Iran's security council said yesterday that President Bush's re-election was in Tehran's best interests, despite the administration's axis of evil label, accusations that Iran harbors al-Qaeda terrorists and threats of sanctions over the country's nuclear ambitions.
Historically, Democrats have harmed Iran more than Republicans, said Hasan Rowhani, head of the Supreme National Security Council. "We haven't seen anything good from Democrats," Rowhani told state-run television in remarks that, for the first time in recent decades, saw Iran openly supporting a U.S. presidential candidate.
Though Iran generally does not publicly wade into U.S. presidential politics, it has a history of preferring Republicans over Democrats, who tend to press human rights issues. "We do not desire to see Democrats take over," Rowhani said when asked whether Iran was supporting Democratic Sen. John Kerry.
The Bush campaign said no thanks.
"It's not an endorsement we'll be accepting anytime soon," Bush campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel said. "Iran should stop its pursuit of nuclear weapons, and if they continue in the direction they are going, then we will have to look at what additional action may need to be taken including looking to the U.N. Security Council."
Kerry, who says halting nuclear proliferation will be a priority if he becomes president, believes Bush should have worked more diplomatically to curb Iran's alleged nuclear weapons ambitions. He says Iran should be offered nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes but that spent fuel should be taken back so it cannot be used to develop nuclear weapons.
"It is telling that this president has received the endorsement of (a) member of the axis of evil," Kerry campaign spokeswoman Allison Dobson said.
a responce written to the gurdians offers to write americans letters to ask them to vote for Kerry :
Dear Limey assholes
Last week G2 launched Operation Clark County to help readers have a say in the American election by writing to undecided voters in the crucial state of Ohio. In the first three days, more than 11,000 people requested addresses. Here is some of the reaction to the project that we received from the US
Dear wonderful, loving friends from abroad,
We Ohioans are an ornery sort and don't take meddling well, even if it comes from people we admire and with their sincere goodwill. We are a fairly closed community overall. In my town of Springfield, I feel that there are some that consider people from the nearby cities of Columbus or Dayton, as "foreigners"- let alone someone from outside our country.
Springfield, Ohio
Have you not noticed that Americans don't give two shits what Europeans think of us? Each email someone gets from some arrogant Brit telling us why to NOT vote for George Bush is going to backfire, you stupid, yellow-toothed pansies ... I don't give a rat's ass if our election is going to have an effect on your worthless little life. I really don't. If you want to have a meaningful election in your crappy little island full of shitty food and yellow teeth, then maybe you should try not to sell your sovereignty out to Brussels and Berlin, dipshit. Oh, yeah - and brush your goddamned teeth, you filthy animals.
Wading River, NY
Right on! Just wanted to say thanks from California for your effort and concern. This IS a very important election ... There are so many people here in the States that care about the impact America has on the rest of the world. I am personally saddened for the loss of all innocent lives. The best statement Americans can make to the rest of the world is to not elect Bush for president. Thank you so much for getting involved in our world.
California
Consider this: stay out of American electoral politics. Unless you would like a company of US Navy Seals - Republican to a man - to descend upon the offices of the Guardian, bag the lot of you, and transport you to Guantanamo Bay, where you can share quarters with some lonely Taliban shepherd boys.
United States
I am a student and life-long resident of Clark County, Ohio. I just wanted you to know that this is a wonderful idea you've initiated; people here love and respect the United Kingdom, especially the prime minister. I hope this campaign will be successful for your newspaper and for us voters.
Springfield, Ohio
KEEP YOUR FUCKIN' LIMEY HANDS OFF OUR ELECTION. HEY, SHITHEADS, REMEMBER THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR? REMEMBER THE WAR OF 1812? WE DIDN'T WANT YOU, OR YOUR POLITICS HERE, THAT'S WHY WE KICKED YOUR ASSES OUT. FOR THE 47% OF YOU WHO DON'T WANT PRESIDENT BUSH, I SAY THIS ... TOUGH SHIT!
PROUD AMERICAN VOTING FOR BUSH!
Shame on you for using the people of Ohio like this. The US presidental election isn't just about foreign policy, it's about healthcare, taxes, education, transportation, natural resources and all manner of issues with little to no impact on the people of Britain.
We live in a globalised, interconnected world. If China shuts its borders to US imports, you better believe American companies, shareholders and workers are affected. Should US citizens therefore have a direct say in Chinese policies? No - Americans should demand that their own elected leaders address the issues with their Chinese counterparts. The British have a similar voice in US policies - through your own elected representatives who have any number of diplomatic, economic and military tools at their disposal. You vote for your leaders and we'll vote for ours. Your problem is with your leaders, not ours.
Washington DC
Real Americans aren't interested in your pansy-ass, tea-sipping opinions. If you want to save the world, begin with your own worthless corner of it.
Texas, USA
Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a wonderful idea! I am a US citizen who is scared to death that Bush and Klan will get back in. We need all the help we can get to ditch this bunch of maniacs.
United States
I just read a hilarious proposal to involve your readership in the upcoming US presidential election. At least, I'm hoping that it is genius satire. Nothing will do more to undermine the Democratic cause in Ohio than having patronising Brits wander around Clark County telling people how to vote. Just, for a second, imagine if the Washington Post sent folks from Ohio to do the same in Oxfordshire. I'm saying this as a Democrat, and as someone who has spent the last few years in the UK. That is, with all due respect. Please, please, be rational, and move slowly away from the self-defeating hubris.
United States
I enjoy reading your paper and agree with your politics, but this is really too much.Your plan, if carried out, will hurt the Bush opposition TERRIBLY. We cannot afford to have this associated with John Kerry or anyone else. It will be; the press is going in for a kill, days before the election.
United States
Your idea is superb and frankly, we need a little help over here right now.
Ohio
My dear, beloved Brits,
I understand the Guardian is sponsoring a service where British citizens write to Americans to advise them on how to vote. Thank heavens! I was adrift in a sea of confusion and you are my beacon of hope!
Feel free to respond to this email with your advice. Please keep in mind that I am something of an anglophile, so this is not confrontational. Please remember, too, that I am merely an American. That means I am not very bright. It means I have no culture or sense of history. It also means that I am barely literate, so please don't use big, fancy words.
Set me straight, folks!
Dayton, Ohio
Hey England, Scotland and Wales,
Mind your own business. We don't need weenie-spined Limeys meddling in our presidental election. If it wasn't for America, you'd all be speaking German. And if America would have had a president, then, of the likes of Kerry, you'd all be goose-stepping around Buckingham Palace. YOU ARE NOT WANTED!! Whether you want to support either party. BUTT OUT!!!
United States
Please be advised that I have forwarded this to the CIA and FBI.
United States
As an American who is very anti-Bush, I applaud your letter-writing campaign. I have read some of the letters that you published, and while I agree with most of the content, I also believe they will not be persuasive. This is because they are too aggressive and, as stated on your website, you don't know anything about these voters. If they happen to be leaning toward Bush, these letters will not put them off.
New York
THE AMERICAN TAXPAYERS HAVE SPENT TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS PROTECTING THE PEOPLES OF THE EU, AND WHAT DO WE GET IN RETURN. BETRAYAL, BETRAYAL, BETRAYAL. I HAVE BEEN TO YOUR COUNTRY, THE COUNTRY OF MY ANCESTORS, AND I KNOW WHY THEY LEFT.
MAY YOU HAVE TO HAVE A TOOTH CAPPED. I UNDERSTAND IT TAKES AT LEAST 18 MONTHS FOR YOUR GREAT MEDICAL SERVICES TO GET AROUND TO YOU. HAVE A GREAT DAY.
Harlan, Kentucky
We all enjoyed this at work. Cheers.
United States
Thank you for taking such an active interest in the elections here in America. I appreciate what the Guardian is doing. Your effort to reach out to "swing states" and make a difference is commendable. I hope that many of your readers will take your challenge to help make a change in Washington by contacting voters.
Clarke County, Georgia
Keep your noses out of our business. As I recall we kicked your asses out of our country back in 1776. We do not require input from losers and idiots on who we vote for in our own country. Fuck off and die asshole!!!!!
Knoxville, Iowa
Gentle folks at the Guardian,
In your plea to get your non-American readers to write to voters in Clark County, Iowa, you are correct that events in the US have had, and will have, effects on world events. For example, we have pulled your chestnuts out of the fire in two world wars that were occasioned by European diplomacy. Maybe you'd like a vote in which American president will oversee the next rescue. The next time you have elections in Great Britain, I shall endeavour to send names of your citizens to people in France, Iraq, India, the United Arab Emirates, Botswana, Pakistan, China and Argentina so that they may attempt to influence your election. It's only fair that everybody in the world should have a say in the selection of the prime minister.
California
Mind your own flipping business.
United States
Dear Guardian folks,
While I empathise with your plight, this attempt to influence voters by sending letters from foreigners will have a negative effect on your ultimate goal. You will cause people to empathise with the president, not the other way around. People will read these letters and say, "John Le who? Never heard of him, but who is he to tell me who to vote for?"
Ohio
I am a registered voter in Clark County, Ohio, and am very much interested in hearing what our overseas friends have to say about our election. You are correct in assuming that this election in the US is the most important election in memory. The threat of terrorism is a very real threat, not just in our country, but all over the world. In this day and age there must be worldwide unity against these fanatical groups who just hate. Not just Americans, but all western civilisation.
United States
Thanks for running this initiative. It may be the only way I get to have an impact on the American election, despite the fact that I'm a registered American voter. See, I vote in New York, which is solidly Democratic. Due to the electoral college system, once a majority is secured in any state, subsequent votes don't really matter. Whether NY goes 51% or 99%, the impact on who actually wins is the same. So thanks for the opportunity to impact somebody else's vote, where it may really matter.
Amsterdam, Holland
Who in the hell do you think you are??? Well, I'll tell you, you're a bunch of meddling socialist pricks! Stay the hell out of our country and politics. And another thing, John Kerry is a worthless lying sack of crap so it doesn't surprise me that a socialist rag like yours would back him. I hope your cynical ploy blows up in your cowardly faces, you bunch of mealy-mouthed morons!
United States
I used to visit the UK every year. I love the history and culture of your country. But after I heard about your campaign to influence our elections, I've decided that neither myself, nor my family will ever visit again. I'm offended by your campaign and because of it, I'm remembering more of the negative aspects I've seen in the UK than the positive ones. Though I still love the castles!
Detroit
Dear British friends,
I think you have an interesting idea to encourage international grassroots efforts, but I sincerely doubt most Springfielders are going to be influenced by letters from a country they probably can't even point to on a map. I wish you luck with your campaign, but I warn you that you're not likely to accomplish much.
Dayton, Ohio
You radical leftwingers are worse than the Taliban. I suggest you stand back and take a good hard look at yourselves.
PS: When do you propose to add Michael Moore to your staff of lunatics?
United States
I suggest that if a particular reader of the Guardian would like to vote in America - would really like to influence the American election, say - that reader should move to America, become a citizen of the United States. Everyone is welcome here. Even the readers of the Guardian. But if you don't wish to be an American, to live in Ohio, for instance, and participate in the American political process, that is too bad. Perhaps there is something wrong with you. Perhaps it is your teeth.
New York
Go back to sipping your tea and leave our people alone.
Ohio
As an American who is afraid of the terrible ramifications if Bush is elected, I commend your efforts to try to get Britons involved. Although many Americans would be critical of British people "meddling" with our politics and elections, all the world will share in the disaster if Bush is re-elected. Many of us are very concerned. I teach young adults, most of whom have been very uninvolved in voting and politics. Many of them are going to vote. We need all the help we can get.
United States
As a US citizen, I want to advise you that you and anyone that participates in subverting the US presidential election can be criminally charged and perhaps even charged as spies.
California
Thank God above for you English! Just when I was beginning to despair at the thought of Bush being re-elected, you come along with a strategy to help us! Your invitation to your readership and rationale for offering it are provocative at the least, and laudable at best.
Springfield, Ohio
These facts are all wrong if youd like I can for the most part go into specifics except for the roe I could go to jail for talking about that .Quote:
