WTF is up with the Boards this week?

Okay we all came for the NEO, as it's everyone's common anchor here... but it's "TEH DRAMA" and just spur of the moment antics that make this community what it is. Latley though {namely this week} it's like no one is saying fuckin' shit! It can't be just me that feels this way. I mean feck... my TEAM AMERICA thread stayed on the 1st Page for Four Days and not because it was entirely popular, but because no one was sayin' shit. ---In all honesty, I'm getting tired of resorting to acting like a complete loon {along with Dinkins and a few others} to get the place jumping. I'm not leaving, and check in periodically throughout the days... but the FEELING around here has been "MEH" since this past Saturday.

It's not that I'm against long incoherent rants, I just don't feel like putting in the effort to read what was obviously going to jump the shark after about two or three sentences and head off into that direction.

Thats what happens when you have a site dedicated to gamers, thats full of the opposite. We have no direction, so we create this drama to have something to do to fill our otherwise boring lives. I bet this community would take off if people talked gaming more and stopped looking for flaws in others. Everyone gets mad and shit, but deep down I think 90% of it is enjoyed. Take that Tora thread for example, it was pure emotion, but fuck all, you had to read it. Thats the nature of the beast and why we have huge traffic during drama. Just like a car crash. I personally believe that many people have a good amount of evil lust within them, even if they claim they are fighting for a good cause, to me its just a mask to hide it.

Seriously though, more gameplay related threads would serve better purpose.
I mean wtf is up, IE: you got people cheering the NGBC roster in gaming, the game releases... Only like 4 threads in the gameplay forum and thats it. If thats to litt,e we get a overdose of these useless threads:'ryu vs hemmroids, etc'. I go to Orochinagi.com and the gameplay talk is even slowing down there. Its really ashame.

I hear you LWK, and you're absolutely right. It's just that I personally have always loved this web community BECAUSE of all of the over inflated egos and just having a "Riot" of topics. However, as of late {and it's been longer than just this week} there just seems to be these lulls. For me NG.Com is an Internet Hangout that's the equivalent to the TV Series "CHEERS". ---If you're here long enough, everybody knows your name, and be it in good fun or in good hatred, the place is interesting. I can't say that as of late though, with the exception of maybe that Kyuusaku dude from Assemblers.

I've been sort of noticing a lack of activity lately. Well, actually the War Room has been jumping with all the Kid Aphex hoopla, but I'm not really into all that stuff.

The Neo related forums seem to be a bit lacking lately, with most new threads being about ngbc or some random nub asking basic questions about the AES or whatever. But that's kind of what I expected to happen after the final Neo release, so no big deal. What's been surprising lately is the lack of activity in the unrelated forums. Like you mentioned, threads just seem to hang page 1, even though no one's really bumping them.

Is it possible that some of us have actually gone out and gotten lives? Please tell me this isn't so ... :crying: :oh_no:

Well you see that's the thing. I manage to have a life outside these boards, work like 3 or 4 day work weeks {all of about no more than 6 hours of work}... usually take a 2-Day Holiday travelling all over TEXAS, or spending quality time with the wife, hang out with some droogs... AND STILL FIND THE TIME TO BE IN HERE throughout the course of a week. So while I can't speak for everyone else, I'm living my life to it's fullest outside here, and still logging in to hang back with my online droogs. Only it's become somewhat stale :(

Meh, It'll pick up soon, it always does.

I've noticed the place slowing down a bit more than usual though.

I don't know after SSV Special the drama kinda died out. Then the whole Ghostloop thing and the rom acceptance isn't making this site that special as it used to. And with SNKP trying to go mainstream the drama isn't what it used to.

think about it no more releases on mvs or aes, mainly what this website was about. So, what new is there to talk about?

Sure we're getting new releases, but it's not the same people, it's some of the same people, but some of us know that it isn't quite the same.

People are also doing other shit, mainly the economy isn't helping, the next gen of consoles are getting cheap and ready to leave the market, and the arcade industry is dying way too fast, that and a lot of people seem to be getting into college, way too many people.

Then there's people who keep this website alive, namely Dinkins.

But there were retards, who blew soome people away (DashK), I mean seriously the drama has always been funny not retarded.....

I still love this site, I read mainly, a lot of people that I like reading from don't freaking know I exist, but just for the way they express/write is pretty cool, and funny. I love this place.

Unfortunately I know it's changing and fast, because of several reasons already mentioned, hopefully the drama will still be here....

and there are less kof fan made sites out there

I haven't pay to much anttention to the teh drama. As of late beside i got to much to worry about what with health problems poping up. Also family issue wich have taken my time these days. So the teh drama isn't much, of a priority to me right now. :eek_2:

It's because of spammers like him that neo-geo.com got a lot less interesting for some of us, because believe it or not, there was a time when we didn't need a semi-professional ng.com Court Jester to start and keep up good topics.

From a gamer's perspective who wants to talk about games first and other bullshit second, neo-geo.com more and more turns into a deluxe version of gamefaqs - lots of topics, but no substance, no dedication, no passion. On the contrary, if you dare to start an in-depth gameplay topic, you will be ridiculed for being an anal freak, and your thread will only get a few replies by always-the-same ppl, even if it's about (more or less) current games, not to mention the outcome of threads about older games...

Some say that the death of the Neo would be responsible for the decay of ng.com, but that's bullshit lie and you guys know it. Just ask yourself why you rather read and post in crap shit nonsense threads instead of adding some interesting and, more importantly, RELATED content to a Neo Geo web site...?! So, what we need are members actually interested in games and gameplay, not a bunch of self-proclaimed entertainers, period.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm liking the way that every gamecube release is getting attention in Unrelated.

I heartily disagree.

While the random "Hey, isn't Metal Slug cool?" and "How do you do blah-blah-blah combo in KOF 2002" is fine and dandy, attempting to keep the board restricted, or even focused, on JUST the Neo-Geo and/or video games would make a very stale forum indeed (Case-in-point: the Comics Journal Boards, a horrible forum that deletes any and all topics that aren't strictly comic-book related almost immediately; the result? a boring, drab forum that gets a new topic about once a week and members that are always on the verge of lunacy because of the strict rules).

Let's face it: when it comes to Neo Geo, there just isn't that much to talk about. And there never, ever will be again. Without new games coming, all there is are the ones that are already out, and if you want virtually any bit of information on ANY of them, there are hundreds of web-sites that cater to the gameplay/strategy minded individual just waiting for your brain to soak up. Why start a thread talking about combos of some random King of Fighters when you can just mosey on over to the aforementioned Gamefaqs and snag a 2 MB faq that tells you every single combination in the game? There's just no point.

Beyond that, this site has been here for years now (and forums before this), and we've just about exhausted our topics of conversation on these games. Think about it: what else is there to say, really, that hasn't already been said?

I prefer to think of the forum as a meeting place where people who all share this common interest (Neo-Geo primarily and video games in general) come together and talk about everything else in the world. Our shared niche all brought us here; it doesn't have to be our only topic of conversation as well.

To the gameplay threads, I have to say this, with my meager library of neo titles and limited experience (so far) with the games, there is not much new people like me can bring to the table, compared to people here, who have played these games to death so I have restricted myself to barely learning from other people.

IMO there has been some good stuff at the gameplay section, like Beelzebubbles` big RB2 thread; that was great, atleast it improved my game.

I have a tendency to spam when bored (or avoiding studies, etc) but as far as these gameplay, etc "heart of the matter" threads are concerned, I willl post when I have something to contribute. Otherwise I`ll just be topping the total amount of spam.

P.S Somebody (SonGohan?) said that n-g.com has true characters, compared to other boards, And I`ll have to agree. On another note teh drama can be quite mind-numbing at times, but the bizarre posters here make this quite a unique place

Most of the forums I visit are dead right now. I don't know why, maybe people are actually getting out and living for a change. I know I visit here less than I used to. As far as the unrelated topics here, that's one of the things that keeps me coming back.

I've been into the Neo since Fatal Fury, I played every KOF in the arcades as they came out. Unfortunately I couldn't afford to get into the hobby until around '98 or '99, but in that period of 5+ years, I've read/covered pretty much everything there is to do with the Neo. At this point, at least for me, there's not much left to talk about anymore. It's the same with the other classic systems I collect such as the Saturn.

If it wasn't for the crazy ass crew of people that hang around here posting in unrelated, I probably would have left this place a long time ago. Consider how much traffic unrelated/war room gets, if that were gone this place would see a drastic decline in activity.

I don't want a bbs with overly strict rules where anything that's not 100% on-topic will be deleted. Over the years, I did mod work on some German game bbs's and I know perfectly well that there has to be a balance between strict mod'ing and live-and-let-live. That never was my point and it's not my point now.

This is where you're wrong in my eyes, and it seems that you obviously haven't spend lots of time with some of your games, otherwise you'd know that specially the FAQs on Gamefaqs only scratch on the surface. There ARE lots of topics to talk about, even for games that are very old. I bet I could name you a few KoF94 gameplay features and combos that you have NEVER heard of, and wouldn't find in ANY faq out there no matter how hard you look for it.

The strength of a bbs lies in the fact that it's NOT some sort of online faq but a place where discussions about games take place. It's not about posting the ultimate faq about a certain game, it's all about discussion, about providing info and getting new tips and tricks to increase the fun you already have with your fave games, about information exchange in-process. This is only possible by actually discussing a game or a series of games in-depth, without having to read the same ol' "get a FAQ from Gamefaqs" crap replies over and over again.

Nothing to talk about? Hah, I bet if some ppl would finally start to play their games instead of just buying them and talking about how cool it is to own them, we would get more good gameplay-related discussion than the ng.com server could swallow.

Let's put it this way, there still are COUNTLESS things we haven't talked about because most discussions are about well-known games anyway, and even then, the amount of clueless, lazy replies is amazing. It shows that most ppl here are casual players, and that's quite sad IMO because at first I thought this would be the epicenter of Neo Geo discussion... well, I was wrong, eh.

I mean, just take a look at orochinagi and read some posts by the guys who know their shit, you will see that ng.com gameplay discussions are quite sad affairs most of the time , and that hasn't changed since 2000, with a few exceptions of course.

I mean, you can talk about "everything in the world" at gamefaqs or the cnn forums, but it's hardly enough to "share a common interest" if ppl don't talk about it. In that light, 99% of all message boards on the internet would be useless.

Log into a Ferrari fan bbs, what will you get? Ferrari topics. Log into a random Anime bbs and what will you get? Anime topics. Log into ng.com and what will you get? Drama, poopling pics by Dinkins, myriads of "who is the best xxxx game?" polls and general off-topic rants, and a few related topics that usually get less than ten replies.

Something goes horribly wrong here, and given this thread, I'm not the only one who thinks like that.

as for me personally, hunting for commercial real estate is eating up a lot of my time but I still try to check in to see if something comes up that I can add to or contribute in some way and while there hasn't been all too much I feel is worth putting up yet, I'm sure things'll pick up sooner or later...

at least we have plenty of people vigilant enough to be ready for when it happens...now I think I'll go check BBH's chick thread in the War Room

I'm sure you could, seeing as how I haven't played KoF94 in over five years. And that's the thing: go over to Shoryuken.com and look at the hordes of gameplay strategies and combo-minded topics. What's the difference between that board and this board? The games they're discussing are widely played, with healthy competition.

Nobody plays KoF94 (or virtually any Neo-Geo game) except for a scattered few, and when we do, it's just for fun. I don't really care about health-percentage-statistics/frame-counting/blah blah bleebadity blah strategies when I'm playing against the friggin' computer, and I would suspect most people share that same mindset.

Again, nobody to play with = no real fun in discussing incredibly anal-retentive strategies. Nothing HUGE is going to be discovered in any of these games. It's all of the "you can save a frame here/there's a random bug here" variety that very few people care about (the whole "I only get the same few people responding" thing...).

Most people here are casual players when compared to the freakishly obsessive-complusive player who knows every move of every game. The people who post here are those kinds of players when compared to everybody else. It's not sad. It's just how you look at it.

Boards grow and change with time, and the Neo-Geo.com board has become what it is, for better or worse, while Shoryuken.com and Orochinagi has become something else. There's different forums for different tastes. I find Orochinagi's discussions mind-knumbingly boring, and even if it's incredibly "off-topic", I'd rather read a random, funny comment by Stinky or Feelgood than talk about quarter-circle punches all day long, especially when I can get my fill of those at other boards.

I really don't get all of this complaining. If you want to talk about gameplay, talk about gameplay. Start topics. Do your thing. If nobody else is as interested in KoF94 combos as you are, you can't force them.

This board is fun. I can get a good goofaw everyday by reading the War Room.

So there aren't that many gameplay discussions anymore...so what. The feeling I get about most of our regulars here is that we are twenty or thirtysomethings, who either work jobs, go to school...or both. I think most here only casually play their NEOs while spending alot of time just goofing off and having fun, discussing life, politics...masturbating etc...

...I think alot of people are moving on to next gen systems anyway, as you can tell there are increasing threads about next gen stuff all the time. The NEO died...people are moving on. I'm not into the newer games, so Im always down for a gameplay discussion, if I own the game, and most of the discussions are for games that I don't own most of the time. You can't get anyone really to even think about Metal Slug 5 anymore, and Shock Troopers has been done to death.

Oh well, hey at least you can come here for a good laugh everyday, I can't say that about alot of other gaming boards out there. This group of people here is a sight to behold indeed, and has the wittiest, goofiest, wackiest crew on the net if you ask me. Dinkins a court jester? Good...I need a laugh after a hard day's work.

Arcade Shock has some pretty cool items, but the s-c.com forums are about as funny as a turd in a punch bowl. :(

There hasnt been much of anything lately...I dunno what the problem is. Maybe nothing much to talk about or people are just really busy as of late. Or there just plain lazy to type anything out. Anyways yeah...Iam just rambling on...

I used the KoF94 example not to sound cool or hardcore because I play a ten-yrs-old game, but to show you that there's still enough to find out about Neo games, even old ones like 94, FFS, etc.

Of course I can't expect the majority of gamers here to take part in what you'd call anal discussions about minor engine features, and I'm not complaining about that but about the fact that any random War Room or Unrelated thread gets more replies than even non-technical, non-anal gameplay topics.

In short, I don't get why some ppl feel the need to become a member of a gaming bbs, only to talk about anything but games.

True, but even casual gamers like to casually talk about games every now end then, whereas on ng.com, it seems that starting a gameplay topic or posting in one with more than a "<xyz> looks badass" or "hello, I'm new and my fave character is <abc>" reply only leads to rised eyebrows... I'm not saying I'd want ng.com to become another on.com, and I don't mind funny posts at all. I'm not a robot, there's no cable hanging off of me, you know... I really love to discuss/fool around with other topics, it's not that I'd think and talk fighters and shmups all day, but I mostly do when I'm here because in the end, that's what I came here for, and that's what I enjoy, to share the passion and to get inspiration.

After lots of passion-sharing, I think I can safely say that the amount of inspiration I got in return so far wasn't quite what I was expecting.... ;)

Ah well, I'm not really complaining, I'm just ranting a bit...
