That's it...I'm so done with this burner.
Aside from the infamous 27C400 all 27C eprom work fine but I have not been able to burn any sizes of MX29 eeprom and now GAL16V8A (for CPS1)

Any known programmer that can handle the above mentioned chips to recommend?

Thanks

My TOP programmer is very picky with the GAL16V8* chips. I can get GAL16V8D to work but I often have to restart the program a few times for some reason. This is the only chip I have that problem with.

At this point I use 27c800 instead of 27c400. Double the image, and leave the extra 2 pins off (or at least leave the NC as NC, and ground the highest address line on the 27c800).

Cheap china usb programmers cover a lot of chips,

GQ4X programmer with ADP-054 adapter for 16bit eproms like 27c400

MiniPro TL866 for GAL16V8/20V8/22V10 and ATF16V8, including MX29 with the TSOP adapters

GQ4X is about $150 with 16bit adapter
TL866 is about $60 with TSOP ZIF adapters

Thanks for the feedbacks, I'm sending few GAL6V8 chips to a friend who has a TL866. Let's see how it goes.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but, in general, what are people's recommendations for a good burner for arcade PCBs (from middle 80s onward)?

Everywhere I've looked so far speak wonders of the new GQ4x4 (or GQ4x Ver. 4, same thing I think).

Does anyone have one here? Is it that good? Or is the cheaper TL866 a viable alternative?

Unless you're investing in a high end device programmer, you're not going to get one programmer to rule them all.

I would throw out an estimate 85% of rom/flash devices found on 80s/90s arcade pcbs are compatible with GQ4X/TL866. Both of these programmers have overlap of thousands of devices they are compatible with, but each one has its pros and cons.

GQ4X is definitely a good quality tool to have, buy the kit that includes ADP-054 adapter for 16bit eproms.

Thanks, I was already leaning towards that one. Guess that's going to be my next buy.

Trying to burn a MX29LV160 with TL866 and suitable SOP44 adapter but the type of chips proposed in the drop down list does not cater for the SOP44 version. MX29LV160 in TSOP48 package is the only one available to select from which of course will not work.
Is there a known way to update the list of chips/package?
