XRGB Framemeister and AES - sync issues

So, searched and could only find fragments of info, none pertaining to this specific question.

So, I am using an AES and a framemeister - the sync is set to auto.

On Mutation Nation I get a black screen in between levels for a few seconds. Super annoying. I've turned auto sync off and experimented a tad with sync level settings. The black screens are gone, but I am seeing that stutter everyone loves.

Has anyone found a sweet spot for sync level using an AES/Framemeister combo?

I had to add a 460 ohm resistor after the LM1881 (sync stripper) on the sync line (within the scart lead) in order to remove to stutter completely.
Only then I was able to set the sync down to reasonable level 6~7 without no stutter.
The above was done for a scart lead used on an AES revision 3-3.
