So I have a copy of SMB2 (US) with a shorted CHR rom. Rom is super hot when running and the game is in like 2 bit. Sound works fine just graphics screwed. PCB is clean and capacitors test fine. I have not removed the rom yet. Any suggestions? or anyone with a rom burner

NES carts are pretty simple devices. Find out the pinout of the CHR rom and the cart connector and start probing to see what's not making connection, or test adjacent pins to see if one is shorted to another. I'd use replacing the chip as a last resort since a standard eprom won't just drop in to a NES cart, the pinouts are different. You can make it work with some lifted pins and wiring but it's a pain in the ass.
