But you can mod the cart to include both versions and select them with a switch:

Regards.
Ohh nice, that's pretty cool.
Version A is the easiest. Just as stated above....the Group mode is like LONELY WOLF with LONELY WOLF having 3X the grenades/bombs/bazooka.Again, the long bar tolerates more abuse as well...
BB
On a very basic/newbie level, Version B is much more welcoming to new players just because you have three lives. Three lives at 64 HP each mean you can take more hits before game over. Just on a very basic argument's sake with no health recovery items picked up, starting a game as Lonly Wolf + Jackal, you can only take 6 hits before game over (maybe 7 if the bar started full, but it never does...). On Version B, from a full life bar Jackal does not die until he's been hit 4 times, which means you wouldn't get game over until you'd taken 12 hits. Obviously this is not always going to be the case because of health recovery items, etc... but new players generally aren't going for close-range attacks so they're not going to see many life-ups.
Once you've become familiar with how the game works and are obtaining life-up items regularly from enemies, then yes I agree Version A is more convenient for one-credit play. You don't have to worry about losing a teammate early since they all share one lifebar, and since you can take a little more damage you have more chances to recover should you make little minor screwups here and there. Especially if you're using a high-defense character (Southern Cross, Big Mama) a lot of the time, you can just tank hits on bosses without as much damage to your overall lifebar.
For scoring purposes, Version B allows for a higher maximum score. Because you have three lives, you can actually spend extra time on certain levels "milking" points - if you run out of time, the game isn't over, you just lose that teammate and the game puts 20 seconds back on the timer. It's very minor and I'm pretty much the only person on Earth that's taken the game to this extreme, but every extra little bit of points count when you get in the 30 mil range (blood on setting, obviously).
(And of course, Version A makes Lonly Wolf even more pointless to select since the extra bomb maximum you get is completely pointless since you would have more total bombs in Team. In Version B at least you get three lives with an increased number of bombs, but Lonly Wolf is still always a bad idea for serious play, just because of the way the game works with assigning speed bonuses to characters based on what level you're on. Everyone picks it when they're new to the game, but if you're still using it and want a higher score on Shock Troopers or a 1CC - start playing Team Mode instead.)
