I played through Ninja Gaiden and it occurred to me how shit the bosses were.

And then I blanked out on what were some great NES bosses.

What are some memorable NES bosses, either character design-wise or gameplay-wise.

Mike Tyson and his one shot and you’re done uppercut.
Recently started replaying Mike Tyson’s Punchout. I’m amazed I was able to beat this game as a kid. Old man hand eye coordination sucks.

Not a boss per se-when you log into the terminal on Bionic Commando, and the little inset pic of the enemy agent pops up, and the caption is ‘Now we have you!’

Holy shit, lol. RUN!

Many of Dr. Wily's castle/fortress bosses, MM2 Dragon & Gutzdozer especially.

+1 to Contra's waterfall stage boss

Zelda 2's thunderbird frustrated me a lot but it had such a cool design i remember it vividly.

Not a difficult boss at all, but Kirby's Adventure Meta Knight had so many cool attacks and frames of animation, and how you knock his mask off at the end is pretty cool
