Alright, I just got this game 2 days ago. Here is what I think so far.

DAMN THIS RULES!

I cannot tell you how much better this is than 2k1.
The characters are fast onscreen.
The music is GOOD
The backgrounds, although not perfect, are generally solid.
The roster is just about perfect.
New characters and such...A LOT OF DETAIL.

SNK made this one.

I actually FEEL like I'm doing something worthwhile when I switch characters. This is the BEST SYSTEM since 99's striker system.

If you can't make up your mind....just buy it. Believe me.

Yeah, 2K3 is damned good. Its funny, how 2K1, 2K2, 2K3 are vastly different from one another but all excellent in their own rights.

One of the first "odd year" kofs that I don't think suck 99...2k1... god damn, what crap. 97 was the last pretty good odd year'd kof.

I think 2k2 gets way too much shit. What's wrong with people?

But anyhow, 2k3 grew on me. Good game.

KoF2k3 just has this style to it...

I can't place my finger on it. The game moves faster than any other KoF I've ever played, and its just...really fun.

The most fun I've had in a fighter since KoF2k. Not counting SvC:Chaos.

First KOF that I've liked, the system was just too slow for me with 3 separate matches, not that they're bad games, just not my style at all.

I love KOF 2003, but I wish the CPU was actually fun to play against. But my 2 friends have warmed up to this year's KOF and it's fun to play with them. KOF 2002 was awesome by the way.

Basically, 2k3 kicks ass! I really enjoyed cancelling combos to character change and then setting up for another combo, then-- DM! more eye candy, more hits!

Bry-
As a recent buyer of 2k1 (and really loving it too), I wondered how more or less effective switch-tagging char's are in comparison to strikers. Could you please describe the effects some more?

As a shooter fan myself, I always liked to have that "final bomb" to fuck the enemy up before I croak. Before I played 2k1 I never knew what strikers could possibly do for a fighter but now I know... to me its almost analogous to a "final bomb" in a shooter... you know you got 1 pixel of life left, and you are prob dead meat so why not just striker the opponent to deth, distract him... whatever. Its brilliant!

If 2k3's switchtag system is simillar, i'm all over 2k3 when I see it for a good price.

Thanks in advance

Game fucking rocks.

Tag feature allows you to bounce out and pull off some attacks with another character. Kinda like rage, only more fun and better controlled.

Athena is still my girl. new costume and she still has her psychic 9 and the fast fireball, however a bit slower than last year.

Many of the moves that have been taken advantage because they're automatic have changed and require precise timing.

I need this fucking game.

to my surprise this game had a small following at the arcade
It's alot better playing competively than against the cpu, which I've been doing
for the duration since it's been here.
iori owns that entire game. I still feel strange playing it without CDs and switching
some supers to leader only deals, and I don't like the sound effects either.
that aside, it was pretty fast and different. I suppose I'll go and try it again next
weekend with a little more spending money, I only had 2 bucks on me at the time.

I agree about 2k3, nice game, but -

- sorry, where does 2k2 get shit? 90% of the members here rate it as good-to-excellent. For me, it's the other way around, I cannot believe that 2k2 gets so much praise and 2k1 so much shit just because it doesn't look as pretty as other KoFs.

IMO, etc.

Honestly, I think this is the worst roster in years. Still fun,
but it could've been much more (other things that bring it
down being getting rid of 2nd throws and CDs, excessively
toned down characters, and the whole Leader system idea).

As for '99, I consider it to have had the worst system of the
recent KoFs, not just strikers, but gameplay-wise as well.

You're just bitter because everyone you play from 02 is either gone or toned to bottom tier :D
I agree that the roster is missing a lot of my favorites, but I love the new characters. I don't think the roster is any worse than other KoFs just really different. New characters and the loss of old ones is what KoF needs to stay fresh.

Loss of the second throw visually sucks but it doesn't affect gameplay much. You still have one throw to the left and one to the right. Not a huge change.
Same thing goes for CD's. I was missing them a lot at first, especially with characters like Terry that I hop CD alot with. After playing the game for a long time I don't think it's worse off without them, just takes different strategies.

'02 had the most prominent CD attack or at least the most useful imo. I do miss them and find myself tagging out instead of countering

It's truly a refreshing change, amazing what can still be done on the old hardware.

I can't speak either on the 1p experience since about the only good kof is 2p.

With all the great and long endings. 03 ranks as the best 1p kof since 97.

True, lots of my complaints are personal. Oh well, at least I got Malin...

To be honest, the only throw I really miss is Leona's Leona Crusher.
"Apple juice!" I wish they kept that one instead, but that's a minor
complaint.
