Well, I think that when we talk about this issue, what we're talking about is a vocal sub-section of the black population that in fact probably makes up a very small percentage of the total African-American population. And you are right that these folks are the ones getting the media attention. The simple fact is that every successful black person in this country is proof that the aforementioned subsection is completely full of shit. We have a black president and I still have to listen to people bitching about the white man keeping them down.

The difference with white trash is only that they have no one to blame. If they did, believe me that they'd be bitching too. Instead, from what I've seen, white trash basically have a "fuck it" attitude because they don't have a scapegoat.

Excelling in your job gets you upward momentum.

But I was specifically talking about the big boss positions. People who MAKE their own wealth and power.
Knowing people falls under the umbrella of "hard work". No man is an island, and it's an unwritten part of any duty statement that you need the ability to make friends and influence people to move up in the world.

We do a huge disservice to kids these days by not teaching them the art of persuasion and how to schmooze for brownie points or make long lasting professional relationships.
