Baby Boomers still dominate pop culture in a way that subsequent generations never will. We're all familiar with Boomer celebrities and we're all watching remakes of Boomer shows and movies. By the time Generation X grew up we had cable (we aren't ever going to have a reboot of The Odyssey). The oldest boomers are turning 70 now. The next 20 years are essentially going to be a marathon of dying superstars.

The other thing is that a lot of the boomer rock stars had tons of contemporary success in the MTV era (which endeared them in Generation X).

Roy Orbison (You Got It)
Heart (tons of success in the mid-80's)
Moody Blues (Wildest Dreams)
Grateful Dead (Touch of Grey)
Beach Boys (Kokomo)
Solo members of the Eagles.
George Harrison
Starship

Often, they they found commercial success that rivaled what they did in in the classic era.
