1cc Metal Slug 2

I'm looking to complete my second 1cc (first was Neo Drift Out!) with Metal Slug 2. Other than watching videos and playing a lot, does anyone have any tips?

Eg how to approach memorising the screens, my practice time etc, emulation vs real hardware, stop myself becoming bored / burnt out on the game etc.

Search for threads by Gemant or BBH talking about MS2/X. They were two of the most knowledgeable members on shmups and run n gun style games.
