Alright, we got a newer game going for this month's SOTM giving us a fresh new look.

Dariusburst: Another Chronicle


Took me a little while to figure this out, seemed pretty confusing, but Dariusburst AC is the arcade release that was on the Taito Type-X2, seen in the wild with it's 32:9 super widescreen view panel. There was an EX updated version released that gives you harder difficulty and more stages.



Now there are many options for finding the original AC version, there's the TTX2 arcade hardware, ports on PS4, Vita, Windows as Dariusburst CS Chronicle Saviors, by selecting AC Original Mode. There’s also the newest Switch and PS4 release titled Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX+ that also has AC Original Mode.

AC Original Mode is probably our best choice for a score competition.

Actually, looking into this more and playing through some CS, I’m thinking we might want to just run Another Chronicle EX, the arcade version.


This version is available on the CS release, as well as the newest EX+ title through Original Mode (also on sale for the Switch and PS4 rn).
It has 3 mode selections for Easy, Normal, and Hard that would be easier to compete high scores for.

Is there’s no objections I’ll update this thread with Another Chronicle EX.

I’m confused-for Switch, should we get CS Core + Sega and Taito pack (eShop game description says “The Original, Original EX, Chronicle, and Event modes contained within AC mode are not included)

Nice, good purchases!
I've been having fun with this game, right now I've only played as the Gaiden ship, which is somewhat limited in abilities, but building up the Black Hole bomb multiple times in the zones is really nice.
But that ship doesn't turn around, and there's no burst ability. I'm going to try the newer burst ships next.

Also, after you all have given it some plays, let me know some feedback on the score table. the shmups forum has hi-scores divided by ending Zone, rather than difficulty levels. I'm thinking we might need to do the same thing since you only play 3 stages at a time, and some of the ending Zones share the same paths between difficulties.

I played a couple credits of the TTX2 version on Vewlix via TTX3 multi. My performance was not amazing. Anyone have advice re: ship choice or play strategy?

Normal mode is tough, I made it to the 3 branch, but I can do better. Maybe I should go with Easy until I get the hang of things.

That’s where I’m at. This game served me up last night.

I can’t decide if I want the pan-n-scan or super wide display; I keep changing it on the fly, and dying stupid deaths as a result.

Thanks for posting this. Was about to buy it on eshop - didn't realize it had a physical release until this post. Much prefer physical. Ordered an ebay copy as well. Hopefully i'll be joining in a week-ish.

Yeah I recommend trying for H or I on the Easy path, till you've found your groove.

The difficulty jump from Easy to Normal does feel pretty large. So definitely figure out the ship you're most proficient at. I think I'm going to try Legend next.
