One of my all time favourites is the music from Streets of Rage II.

I missed out when Mars Colony Music did their release of this. Once in a while I do a search to try and track down a physical copy, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that iTunes actually carried the various volumes of the Yuzo Koshiro Best Collection for sale. I just finished downloading it and need to copy it over to my phone.

Though I prefer having a hard copy and ripping it myself, so if anyone had an original copy of the the Japanese or American release for sale, let me know.

Probably Border Down. Most G.rev games have a specific synth in them that is awesome. I can't figure out what it is though.

I have to say NES Ninja Gaiden. The music conveys every emotion so perfectly; it tells an amazing story without spoken words.

Scott Pilgrim VS the World: the game has the best music in a modern game. Ever. Anamanaguchi did some good work.

The best retro games have been the Mega Man series to me.

OutRun, specially Magical Sound Shower.

And then there's the wonderful soundtrack of Real Bout Fatal Fury Special.

...and hundreds of other tracks.

I like the soundtrack of Chrono Trigger and many more games. Too much to name.

Yeah there are really too many great tunes. Castlevania games are a firm favourite, as are Megaman and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Streets of Rage 1 and 2 for sure and you cannot beat the Super Castlevania 4 soundtrack.

Also Streetfighter III third strike had a decent soundtrack aswell especially Gill's "Psych-out" music.

Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, Braid, Castlevania, Ketsui, ESPrade...

Super Metroid has the most impressive, most effective (if that makes any sense), most atmospheric music in any game ever, in my opinion.

Pretty fond of the soundtracks in Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III. Loads of amazing music in both of those...

Where to start...

Anything by Yuzo Koshiro.

The Soldier Series on the PC Engine.

A lot of the music on the PC Engine Super CD games.

Last Ninja Series on C64.

Demoscene on C64 and Amiga. (Loading screens for C64 as well).

The Konami music from that custom IC (Violent Storm, TMNT, etc).

Hiroshi Kawaguchi and the Sega Sound Team band. (Outrun, Space Harrier, Afterburner series, etc).

Danny Baranowsky: Cannabalt and Super Meat Boy.

Simon Viklund: Bionic Command Rearmed series, Payday, etc.

Kow Otani's work on Shadow of the Colossus.

Samurai Shodown series, Last Blade series, Blazing Star, King of Fighters (95 and 96 have some great tracks).

The Fallout 3 soundtrack and OST.
