Saw Avengers Infinity War. As much as I'm sick to death of comic book movies, I was actually looking forward to this one as it's supposed to be the end of the 10-year arc of Marvel movies. Reminded me a lot of a season of Game of Thrones: there's 8 different sub-plots with various people we like making witty banter while they wait for winter/Thanos to come and fuck their shit up. While it was gutsy to end a major summer blockbuster movie the way they did, the ending is a giant who-gives-a-shit because death has zero stakes in a comic book movie where anyone can come back at any time for any half-assed reason. Plus a lot of the sub-plots are a giant waste of time and have the same basic theme ("I refuse to sacrifice the thing most precious to me to prevent Thanos from getting the stone!" <Thanos pops up> "I'll take that!" <yoink>). Not sure what they're trying to convey when Thanos is the only one willing to make the huge sacrifice to achieve his goals while the heroes are all selfish and/or lack foresight.
That said, there's a lot of fun hero-on-villain punchy-punchy and they don't waste a lot of time on the gratuitous, unnecessary CGI battlefield scene that seemingly all these movies are required to have now. Plus there's some pretty great deep-cut banter between the various characters who hadn't met up until that point. If you had told me 15 years ago that Marvel would get to do a long series of superhero movies, that most of them would be pretty good and that it would culminate in the Infinity Gauntlet story with like half of the Marvel universe in it, I probably would've laughed in your face but here we are. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm grateful that these movies exist but I probably would've cared a lot more if this was 15/20 years ago.
