The other thread degenerated past the point I can force myself to look at it, so I'll just say this: my argument is only against the presumed need for assault rifles in the home to be used supposedly for defense.

The person arguing loudest in favor for assault rifles for home defense doesn't own one, has no plans to buy one if the ban is lifted, and doesn't even keep any guns in his home now, anyway. So I think the validity of his argument speaks for itself.

This has nothing to do with the ban itself, which may very well be a waste of taxpayer money that accomplishes nothing. They are seperate things. I am also not against owning a handgun or shotgun for the purpose of home defense, although I've never felt the need to own one personally.

Guns are so fucking awesome.

EDIT As for the third option/ no opinion/who gives a fuck if you don't have an opinion you can just abstain from voting.

I own many of the so called "assault weapons",including 3 ak's, a sks, ar-15, etc.

I feel that law was a waste, its proven it did not help bring down crime at all, but just restricted law abiding citizens. Thats all i got to say.

That has nothing to do with the validity of an argument. That has more to do with the degree of passion he/she holds for that argument, and "practicing what you preach".

A cursory glance at the numbers will reveal that almost all crimes are committed with handguns (at the very least, 80%). This is further evidence that the assault weapons ban is little more than a feel-good measure (no offense to our resident member and recent Evil Wasabi absorbee, ).

So our society consists of 80% handgun crime, and then the rest of it (shoplifting, breaking epa regulations, insider trading, prostitution, drunk driving, speeding, computer fraud, buying selling growing maijuana, tax evasion) is 20%

If 80% of crimes were commited with handguns, I would support a ban on all firearms, lol.

Option 3. Because even before this ban expired the morons who wanted to own an assault weapon just had to look for ones made prior to 94 (gun shops in a number of states still have them readily available). Don't bother to put a ban into place if you're going to leave a giant goatse sized legal loophole open.

And after we ban hadnguns, we can ban alcohol, too! Yeah, because alot of crimes and stuff are done by people under the influence!

Can't we just reverse your logic and say that we should legalize rocket launchers? Banning handguns, and alchohol isn't going to happen, the same as we arn't going to legalize rocket launchers.

Where does that article talk about fewer crimes being committed with assault rifles? Violent crime is down accross the board because the penal system is tougher on criminals, not because of this silly law.

It doesn't, your whole point about needing an assault rifle is for fighting off criminals. Violent crime is down, ergo you have LESS need of an assault rifle.

these guns in question are not assault weapons, assault weapons are the weapons of the military that posess full auto. These do not. If you know your guns then you know what im talking about. "assault weapons" was just a bs political statement to get rid of these guns and scare more people that dont even know anything about guns. I was reading some of the posts about this subject and I was surprized to see some people dont even no the difference between a machine gun and these weapons in question(no offence). Thats why i feel people would know more about guns, it seems to me that most people that are antigun dont even know anything about them. I was blessed in my family lol, cause i learned about them at a early age exspecially how to respect them, saftey, etc.
Its a true statement to me"Guns dont kill people, people kill people". Im sure if there was no guns people would be talking about baning rocks or somthing lol, cause people would still be killing people in other ways.

One thing i got to say about defence with these guns and a high capacity clip too, is, if someone broke into your house and your life was in danger, would you feel safer with a gun that holds 10 rounds, or a gun that holds more?(and dont even give me that story about if you cant hit anything with 10 rounds then you shouldnt own a gun, cause I hear that all the time from antigun people, in stressfull situations, even the best shooter can miss!!) I know what i would pick.


One last thing lol, I hate the stuff they show on the news almost all the time, they never tell about the good stuff that happen with these weapons. I forgot what the book was called (ill have to look it up), my dad has it, and its shows all the statistics about these weapons, crimes they been involved in, and how many times it was used in self defence. Crime by these guns is very low, and succesfull self defence with these weapons without even shooting one shot is high.


Like it or not, theres people like me that like to collect these so called assault weapons, to me its like collecting my neo geo stuff, its something i like and i dont abuse it. So antiguners, DONT ABUSE MY RIGHT TO OWN THESE!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL thanks again and have a good nite

Is there gun violence in Canada? Sure. It could happen here, to me, my friends or family. Doesn't mean the answer is to arm myself to the teeth. Guns were meant to kill, not defend, but to kill.
