I'm just about to recieve my sony 20 inch rgb monitor for a cab. It's a home televsion set like the one that some other member here owns. But what I'm wondering is how do I give the jamma harness those little plugs to connect it to the tv? where would I buy them? and to be sure that they're the right frequency for the right job. Can anyone please help with some suggestions?

Those plugs are called BNC. You could get a DB15HD-to-BNC cable (DB15HD is what it's used for VGA), put a matching DB15HD on the jamma harness and you're done.

Sony (and others) seem to complicate the RGB input issue for the layman by using BNC, I assumed it was a scart, not as good by far I know, but at least user friendly.

BNC bayonet fit is excellent for special applications like cctv, test equipment, military/medical use etc. For AV home entertainment its overkill imho. Unless ones a purist I guess, or have kids pulling the cables.

If this is the same monitor you got, I hope you don't plan to play JAMMA games on it. Why, you ask? Because most JAMMA boards output a very bright signal and this monitor can't cope with it as well as say... a PVM-2530. Even if you turn the brightness down all the way, it's still way too bright. Maybe if you added some resistors, it might help, but I am no expert.

However, Neo Geo MVS seems to output fine on it. And it's a 27.5 inch monitor (26.6 inch viewable). Oh, and in order to get all the inputs shown in the picture above, you need to have the scan convertor. Otherwise, you only get a basic set of inputs. The basic input module is at my parent's place at the moment, so I can't tell you what is it right now.

The scart specs are really nice, but its design is quite bad. It's hard to plug it from the rear in the dark, and you can destroy some pin.

I do appreciate that AJ, the thing is that the scart is an off the shelf item (and easy for the novice DIY to solder up) the BNC though being superior, is tricky to locate for some and even trickier to terminate to the novice. And unnecessary for home entertainment plug and play use imho. Its a standard in Europe and seems to work reasonably well despite the connection issue you mention.

what I plan to do is put it in a candycab. I know you're thinking "why do that instead of buying an arcade monitor which is meant for that?" well I'm using this just because it's free. An engineer from sony is helping to get me a 20 inch one (I'm not sure of t he actual size). But it's rgb for sure. And I wanna play games on my arcade cabinet. How would I attach resistors?

If you plan to take apart the monitor shown above, that's gonna be a real shame... Why? Because brand new, they cost $3500. Taking the thing apart is fairly easy. Unscrew some screws, pull it out of the casing and you're pretty much set. As for how to mount it in a candy cab, that's something I don't know. Nor do I know how one would add resistors to it.

Make sure you take some pictures when you get the monitor. Maybe someone else on the forum can help you out.

I think I'm going to leave it together the way it is whe I recieve it. It's a 20 inch screen, But a normal candycab monitor is 27 so I'm sure I can mount it to the inside and won't have to take anything apart. I know they're used for testing stuff mainly but what kind of videogame applications do these monitors have? I mean overall. What are these monitors good for?

Good luck mounting that sucker, it weighs like 120lbs at least. That candy cab better have walls of steel. I have a Capcom impress and i'm certain that monitor will not fit in it with the casing on it.

300wins,

I'm getting my 2530 back this week. Hopefully its fixed now. Last time I saw it, it had a slight convergence problem and the right side had a wobbly bit. If they fix it, its going to be perfect.. heres hoping. :drool_2:

As Neorichieb1971 states... those monitor weigh a ton and mounting it WITH the case will be very difficult.

Richard - Let me know how your 2530 is when you get it back. Gimme details. :)

I understand why Zorro is doing this..

He's got that Candy cab...(I'm pretty sure it's like mine MVS-U4)
But he's missing the monitor that's a BITCH to get if not impossible...

So he's got an Empty cab in need of a monitor and he's trying to get it going using this sony 20 inch rgb monitor .

Reading that the 20 inch rgb monitor is real heavy I don't know if he's going to be able to do it...and if he'll even have the room in the cab to actually get it in there.

My question is..
Is there anything else he could use..?
Like..
A US cabs Monitor ..Maybe getting one cheap/used..(adding a Isolation Tranformer to the cab)

A lighter cheap TV set..?

Any other options for him..

I think I can get a monitor for $200 in the 27-29" range. A buddy of mine used to work in Chucky Cheese as a arcade cabinet technician and knows where you can buy them in any shape, size or form.

Its a website so I will ask him on Wednesday when I get back home.

I appreciate it if you can help me. I think most standard candycabs have 27" monitors is this correct?

.. But shipping might be a bitch on that thing :(

USA cabs like golden Tee have huge monitors so a USA distributor for that type of monitor must exist. I will keep this thread handy and post my findings here okay.

As for shipping, thats the price you pay. I paid $210 inc shipping for my PVM-2530 (monitor was $110 or something) and the geometry issues have cost me another $200. So expect to pay about $350 in total for a RGB monitor for your cab in total.

Anyway, I find out anyway, it might be a good resource for people like yourselves if anyone needs another monitor. Those monitors are not going to last forever :oh_no:

sounds like what I was thinking. But first I'd have to find the right audience for such a product. What kind of people would pay a good amount of money for one. Or Who would desire such a product?

I wonder if any of these places are located near you..

They sell monitors here..This place is located near me so If I ever need a new monitor I know where I can get one..

Most of them say NO ISOLATION transformer required ..like what you need.
