Sounds nifty. Too bad it's not showing on any of my local PBS stations in the next 2 weeks.

It came on twice last night.

It was a pretty good half history half culture study program.

Except for the part where they started on about how great PC games are over consoles towards the end (they were at GDfest and then started showing MMORPGS and stuff toward the end).

Over all it was cool.

Some "Revolution"

---until the gamers of the world start to band together in Cabals here and there and producing Studio Quality games for whatever the repsective system by harnessing the power of everyone's talents, and distributing them without the need for Best Buy and mega houses, but by the RAW tenacity of "the movement" where mini-companies are Professional Hobbyist Corporations by the gamers for the gamers... then there's no Revolution. *How many times have we seen a small group work on a homebrew project and then it goes nowhere... or supposed die-hard gamers won't support something after it's all said and done, won't boycott when asked to do so to strong arm the legitimate companies from assine practices... ALL THIS WOULD BE A FUCKIN' REVOLUTION! I loathe the fact that the term is so loosely used to describe what would better be called The Interactive Paradigm Shift from the days of pinball to present. The truth is not many have the patience, dexterity and consolidated mindset to carry out a Revolution be it for games by gamers, absolute boycotts when gamer's voices need to be heard and FELT... or just plain flat one with Shit Kicker labled all the fuck over it.

:very_ang:  :blow_top:

Yeah, it aired here in Phoenix last night. Pretty good show, really did a lot to explore not just video game history but also the overal social impact it has had on the world.

I learned a lot about the earliest days of videogaming, but took issue with some things they said about later generations. One thing they were just plain wrong on was that they claimed Zelda II was bundled with the SNES. They also didn't give much love to Sega at all. They barely mentioned the Master System, spent time on the Genesis primarily as a part of their discussion of Mortal Kombat, and didn't mention Saturn or Dreamcast at all. Yet, they did highlight the N64 against the playstation, even though it really didn't have any more impact in that generation than the Saturn did against the PSX. Also, the developers they used to discuss the current generation were (as usual) not necessarily representative of developers...just the most vocal (ie Naughty Dog).

All in all, it's still worth a watch IMO though.

They didnt say Zelda II was bundled with the SNES, they said that "a highly anticipated sequal to the legend of zelda was bundled with the snes" and it showed the title screen of Zelda II, kind of misleading, but not wrong.

semantics. You say a sequel to legend of zelda, then show the title screen of Zelda II, never having mentioned it prior, what do you thing the implication is???

yeah, saw it two nights ago here in NY...

I had low expectations going in so I will admit it wasn't all that bad, but as you say there were some omissions/discrepancies (not to mention little mention of SNK or any other companies other than the biggies) and I wish they hadn't glossed over the arcade scene so quickly once they began talking about the home market...

ah well, it was still better than I thought it was going to be and at least there was some face time given to an MVS cab with Puzzle Bobble...
