Hello,

I'm new to forum and to having a Neo Geo in the home. When I was a wee lass I always wanted my very own NEO GEO arcade machine, however I could never afford it being 12 and having no job. Now that I am older, not so wiser, I purchased a Neo Geo MVS cabinet. So far, it's been wonderfull! I only have one game but I hope to change that soon.

Anyway, my real question is when the Neo Geo is not in use, is it ok to turn it off? Will turning it on and off frequently (no more then twice a day) damage the power supply? Is meant to be on consently like a fridge or turned off like say a PC or lamp? How much power does it consume? At the end of the month will my electricity bill sky rocket?

Please pardon the n00bish questions, I'll get smarter, I promise.

Thanks in advance

-s.

I would turn the cab off when not in use.

Some members have made the point that these cabs are designed to run all day in an arcade enviroment, this is true but we are not talking arcade enviroments we are talking at home. Although the power consumption is relatively low typ 200 watts say (similar to a 29'' TV) the cost of running the cab continually is bound to add up, probably a few dollars a month.

Regarding reliability, obviously leaving to cab on will increase the risk of a hardware (or software for that matter) failure, especially, like in my case in PNG, where we suffer poor mains supply and get regular mains outages, brown outs, spikes etc down the mains supply.

The CRT has a definate life span and will deteriorate gradually with time, why not reduce the rate of deterioration by switching off whilst not in use.

Ok, good. I've been turning it off at night when not using.

Is there a perfered method of shutdown? I have it hooked to a power trip and I have been turning it off that way. Should I be using the switch inside the cab?

It doesnt make much difference imho. Essentially the same thing.
I have had a couple of mains toggle switches flake out, reduces the risk of that I guess.
