It certainly looked great, and I would've loved to see something like this brought to life, but as a rabid Chrono Trigger and 2D fanboy I'm really not all the bummed out, since the original CT is still one of the best games (not just RPG's) ever created.
Well I meant they had to put an end to it since those fans were making a Chrono Trigger game. That's pretty much blatant IP theft, and the way copyright laws work if you don't try to stop a production like that based off your work the first time you're going to have a hard time stopping another group from doing it in the future.
Basically they had to protect their IP. If it were just FMV sequences then sure it'd probably be fine, but since they were gonna make game sequences out of it, then it's a problem.
On the Chrono Trigger PSX port:
The load times suck, but if you turn on fast loading on the PS2 it helps out a bit, not enough to make it so you don't notice, but it helps.
The FMV's are awesome though, they're strewn throughout the game at big scenes. First they show you the FMV then they go through what you'd normally see on the SNES version. You miss nothing, they only add to the experience.
It even has Toriyama styled sound effects in a bunch of the sequences, which just makes it all the more great (as if this game needed it).
Note to all the haters: Screw you, Square-Enix =
