This is the first I'd heard of the project. It looks like it was pretty brilliant. The architecture is dead on, the faces are a bit off. Too bad.

That's too damn bad. Really impressive screenshots.
It's amazing the way the line between a lot of fan-produced works and 'legit' stuff is blurring. People are developing some really impressive skills.

Wow, it took a few fans to create something the SE probably never would. Those fuckers over at square are too worried about the 10th expansion pack for FF11 to make something like that.

Square-Enix should do what the government does when it comes across people successfuly constructing a nuclear device or something: hire them.

What he said, that looks better than half the garbage that comes out on next gen consoles nowadays.

Man, SE has gone gay as of late...why not let these guys run with it? They[SE] seem to have given up on the idea of using good characters/storylines anyway.

What with all the shit I've been hearing lately.

This has happened on various projects (Bid for Power for example).

Nothing special here. I dont have much sympathy for the people making it either. If they wanted to make a kickass game, they could have at least came up with something original isntead of doing a "fan service" and using the IP's of Square.

It happened to the 2D Zelda game that was being made as well. I think it was supposed to be a 2D Ocarina of Time.

This makes me so angry. SE has better do an official version or I may just hate them forever. As was said, it would make so much more sense to hire them, rather than shut them down. This is exactly what fans are wanting and despite being homebrew, it looks like it could definitely hold its own as a GameCube/PlayStation 2 game.

Well, it is a tribute after all.
And if it just was a bunch of original characters, no one would really pay much attention to it.

Fuck SE.

Everyones sucking this games dick because it had CT characters in it. If the game was any good, the characters wouldnt matter and its not hard to write a decent story.

True, but to be completely honest, if that game were complete, I wouldn't be interseted if it weren't for the CT stuff :P

I must be the only one who thought it looked like fucking crap.

It would suck compared to the original Chrono Trigger anyway.

Looked great to me... I too thought that it had a good chance of being picked up by SE as an official release. I would have been into that if they did.

Square had to put a stop to it because, well they were making a game based off of Chrono Trigger, and even if it were some fan based thing they weren't going to charge for if they didn't put a stop to it then they couldn't legally put a stop to some other company trying to do the same thing with the franchise. It's one of those catch-22's of copyright law. Ask Bobak or one of our other law people.

Shame too though, I'm playing through Chrono Trigger again on the PSX and I'm constantly being reminded as to why it's the greatest RPG ever made. Oh and the PS1 FMV's they added really do add a whole lot to the game. All done by Toriyama too, which makes it even better. :D

This sentence confused the hell out of me... and I'm totally sober.

On topic: meh

It certainly looked great, and I would've loved to see something like this brought to life, but as a rabid Chrono Trigger and 2D fanboy I'm really not all the bummed out, since the original CT is still one of the best games (not just RPG's) ever created.

Yeah, it seemed like a great idea, until I realized that there are 5-10 second load times every time I go to the menu. The FMVs are cool, but the load times are ridiculous.

Except the FMV endings aren't as good as the originals. Are the FMV's the only endings available?

this doesnt suprise me since square is full of talentless faggots.

they should keep their final fantasy franchise deep inside their sandy vaginas where it belongs.

Well I meant they had to put an end to it since those fans were making a Chrono Trigger game. That's pretty much blatant IP theft, and the way copyright laws work if you don't try to stop a production like that based off your work the first time you're going to have a hard time stopping another group from doing it in the future.

Basically they had to protect their IP. If it were just FMV sequences then sure it'd probably be fine, but since they were gonna make game sequences out of it, then it's a problem.

On the Chrono Trigger PSX port:

The load times suck, but if you turn on fast loading on the PS2 it helps out a bit, not enough to make it so you don't notice, but it helps.

The FMV's are awesome though, they're strewn throughout the game at big scenes. First they show you the FMV then they go through what you'd normally see on the SNES version. You miss nothing, they only add to the experience.

It even has Toriyama styled sound effects in a bunch of the sequences, which just makes it all the more great (as if this game needed it).

Note to all the haters: Screw you, Square-Enix = :buttrock:
