I would get this one(DMS3 PLUS ModChip) if it was me. I don't really know that much about these things, but it's the newest one on the site, no swap, region free dvd, etc...

it's 19 wires though...

again, I have only done a couple mod jobs and not on a ps2. So, I am just guessing.

I have a 29 wire xbox mod in my xbox (first available chip for the system), and only got 2 imports :( and now I have no online :(

All my buddies run the DMS3 PLUS ModChip and have no complaints so far. However, I haven't used it myself. Currently using a test/debugging/development system PS2 to run region free and burns.

To play imports you are better off with a Jap PS2.

Modded Xboxes are reliable.

Modded PS2's are, well, the hardware is crap to start with, and then you jam a chip and 19+ tiny solder points into it.... well, I don't recommend it.
