After watching that speech all I can say is wtf?

It must be tough on his family, having an elderly relative suffering from severe dementia like that.

He has always been known as a guy who switches sides regularly.

On another note ... the dude's a marine, and he doesn't take kindly to guys that waiver when it comes to supporting the troops with their votes (monetarily or otherwise) - so what did you expect?

What's especially sad is that the RNC decided Zell Miller be one of the keynote speaker, and this was no cursory decision. Them's some wise strategists in the GOP.

From a tactical standpoint it was basically too good to be true for the GOP. I guess the majority of my reaction to the speech is that I just wasn't expecting something so vitriolic.

I was kind of expecting another "high road" speech by McCain with alot of soundbytes the RNC could use for ads. Something along the lines of "My party is mistaken and it's vital in the interests of this nation since 9/11 goes beyond politics, so I support GWB, but we're all Americans and must fight this war together.etc.etc.etc." not something so venomous.

I'll admit I've been more sympathetic to Bush lately, especially after watching the Gulliani, McCain, and Arnold at the RNC, but my god Miller just looked plain satanic.

The speech wasn't all that great. Other speakers have done well to go after Kerry's Senate record, but Miller did it in such a poor fashion it was terribly inefectual.

I mean Cheney was just drab (though w/ a few good one liners), but even having a wall like that go after Kerry's record was far more effective than what Miller did.

Purely emotion driven politics are bad in general, a good middle ground needs to be taken as was evidenced by Gulliani, McCain, and Arnold.

Satanic? nah I'd say old and grumpy. He needs his medication after 6pm or he gets like that.

Zell Miller’s speech was remarkably substantive, but this is little surprise to anyone familiar with his maverick brand of intellectual honesty. It’s a rather sad state of affairs when we would prefer a politician to wallow in vacuous ambiguity and recoil instantly at the first appearance of unrepentant candor. I certainly didn’t agree with everything that was said, but to denounce his words and - in the same breath - laud leftist demagogues under the guise of first amendment preservation is brazenly disingenuous.

Meh, the middle of both parties is virtually the same anyway. Its just no fun without "teams".

Don King is lending a lot of support to the Bush campaign this year, so if you count him and Allan Keyes, well the GOP's got a lock on the crazy African American vote ;) [joke]

Not to derail, but if you’d taken even a moment of your time to know Alan Keeyes, as an orator, a statesman, an intellectual, or proponent of 3rd part politics you’d know him as someone as far from the word “crazy” as one can be in the world of professional politics. I only take offense because it’s all-too convenient for narrowminded people to relegate him as an “Uncle Tom” or some derivative thereof without any logical examination of his positions. For one, I admire the manner in which his does not equivocate on the topic of his most adamantine beliefs, be they regarding his character, faith, or political ideology. Not because I always agree with him, but because of the frank, eloquent, and commonsensical manner in which he derives said opinions. While most people see fit to form opinions - mostly by prejudice, ignorance, or the whim of emotional trappings - and trust blindly in their oft-failed logic, Keyes speaks at great length, not just about what he believes but why. So, ignore his words if you must, but give the man the credit he deserves. Michael Moore has more in common with Don King than Alan Keyes...

Alan Keyes is crazy.

I knew nothing about this guy until he appeared on NPR for an interview, immediately after an Obama interview. And boy, Alan Keyes is crazy, and I mean frothing, afraid of water rabid mad.

Sorry, I equate extreme right as crazy as extreme left. Keyes is Krazy (attention Barak Obama, I think you've got your new campaign slogan!). I don't care how well he can speak. Many of histories greatest morons were also great orators -like William Jennings Bryan or Hitler (and yes, I knowingly admit those two examples are very different from each other).

As crazy as Jerry "the left caused 9/11" Falwell, as crazy as whatever hippie of the month the Fox News Channel puts on as a representative of "the left". I'm not saying far left is devoid of its own wackos, I'm just saying Keyes, Bauer, or whatever extreme right idealogue you want to talk about is in a zone I refer to as the "Crazy Zone" which is actually located in the town of "Crazyville" in "Krazy Kounty" of the "State of Crazy" in "Crazylvania" which is located right next to Cleveland, OH for some odd reason outside of the grasp of my mere mortal mind.

Oh, and lighten up :p

Didn’t think you were. It’s just that so much misinformation and prejudice pass for discussion on these boards that I’m beginning to believe it is the gelatinous membrane enclosing the nucleus of every discussion. Even under the guise of jest.

Oh, yeah...

Casually likening Alan Keyes to Hitler. Hmm.
