I've been playing games since I could first use a TI 99-4A, and one thing I have noticed is this: Game endings SUCK! For the most part I mean. So many games have wonderful presentation, introductions, and execution, that you would think that the ending would mirror those qualities, but the truth is that most just don't.

So I ask you this: What games do you feel have wonderful endings? What games have conclusions that are just as wonderful or better than the intro, and really top off the game?

Here are a few of my Faves, no particular order:

Ninja Gaiden (NES)

Ninja Gaiden 2 (NES)

Dracula X (PCE)

Renny Blaster (PCE)

Devil May Cry

Silent Hill 2's "Water" Ending

Star Fox (SNES)

TMNT: Turtles in time (The real ending, SNES)

Chaos Legion

MUSHA Aleste (Mega Drive)

Viewtiful Joe

How about you folks?

AMEN.

Best ending out of all the endings of all the games in the SH series.

Also: - Terry and Andy's endings in Real Bout Fatal Fury

- the endings of Soul Edge/Blade (I loved how they branched if you input a command)

Other than those, my mind is blanking, but I know there are others I liked...

Metal Slug X has some really cool artwork at the end, IMO. I also like the ending of the original Metal Slug.

Legend of Zelda (NES) and Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES) also had great endings, IMO.

My favorite ending thus far would have to be that of Super Metroid - I was sad when the poor little Metroid buddy of Samus' got waxed .... :crying:

I liked the Chrono Trigger ending you get if you don't save Chrono. Was sad :P

I liked most of the Zelda endings as well.

I strongly agree with Galfordo and Magician:

my fav will likely always be Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past.

I never owned the SNES version (I had it on a 1 year loan from a friend back when we were kids), it was nice to get the GBA version and relive the ending again.

As for SNK endings, I really got a kick out of the AOF team ending from KOF2k. Too bad they never did anything with the story.

I agree with the ICO dude, great great ending to a game.
I kinda like some of the endings to Sam Shodown 4, which the old "beautiful nightmare" and "gods child rests here, Gods child rests here" bit.

Both MGS games, Zelda: Wind Waker, Final Fantasy X, and Ryu's ending in SF2.

All the games people have mentioned in this thread have solid endings, but for my money, I've yet to come across a game with an ending that comes anywhere near to the quality of Kanno Hiroyuki's classic YU-NO, which has an ending that's essentially three to four more hours of perfect wrap-up tacked onto an already huge (100+ hour) storyline. Perfect game, perfect ending.

The A+ ending to Tactics Ogre (the one you get if you meet certain requirements involving beating the game quickly and having very few casualties) is pretty good, as is the "F" ending (if you die at the final boss).

Also, Andy and Krauser's endings in RBFF2 are pretty good.

But two of the best endings I've ever seen have been the Eliwood ending in Fire Emblem and Duck King's ending in RBFFS.

The ambiguity of Panzer Dragoon Sagas ending was interesting, shame no sequel is apparent.

A good ending (story non withstanding) has to have badass music, a-la SF2:CE & RBFFS

And dont forget the original Fatal Fury, which really lives up to "the ending surpasses the game". How many times did I clunk my way through that game so I could see Geese fall out of the building? I liked that ending more than all the original Street Fighter 2 endings put together.
