I haven't checked a video game related site for news in a long time

I just realized it's been at least 8 months now since I checked any of the video game news sites. I used to check that shit religiously, now I just don't care.

My video gaming hobby has taken a back seat to just about everything lately. I have bought 2 new games in the last month, La Pucelle Tactics and Tales of Symphonia, but before this month I hadn't bought a new game (new from the store) for at least 6 months. I had bought a couple DC Sakura Taisen games and ST Saturn 'games' (not the games, but the extra discs), but other than that, nothing. I haven't even fired Symphonia up at this point...

I remember about this time last year I posted that my video gaming interest was waning, but I was still checking news regularly. I don't check the sites anymore and I barely play games.

I'm honestly not even sure why I'm still coming here. I haven't turned on my 4 slot or Hyper/super gun in at least 4 months. I'll admit that watching the SNK ICONS thing that setsuna offered for download made me want to play again, but I didn't play right away and here it is 2 days later and my interest has faded.

When I posted last year everyone was saying 'ah, it happens all the time, you'll get back into it!' Well, it's been 18 months since I started feeling this way and the only thing that's changed is that I feel like playing games even LESS now than I did 18 months ago.

it's sad, I used to love video games so much. Now it's Anime I suppose. I don't see the Anime fetish dying anytime soon though.

But it does.....

I use to be HUGE in anime (have tons of discs/vhs to show that), posting on anime message boards (anime nation in like 1999-2001), keeping up to date with all the new series coming out, and getting the fansubs off of IRC.

It sucks, because I want to get back into it, but I don't have the money nor knowledge of the new series to really get back into it....

yeah i know you said soon, i'm just saying.

I don't see Anime dying FOR ME anytime soon. I mean, I guess it's possible but improbable.

I literally played video games from the time I was 2-3 until now, so that's 23 +/- years of gaming. I don't know that my Anime fetich will last 23 years, but it's definitely still interesting for me now.

The first step to a cure is understanding why you feel this way. Then you can take steps to cure your ailment :). Has anything changed in your life that would make games less of a priority? I was totally out of gaming up until a couple of years ago, but I think it was mainly an issue of the current games just not doing it for me. All those feelings rapidly subsided once I got into the Neo, however. :D

I guess it's also possible that you may just be growing out of it.

P.S. I'd be lieing if I didn't mention that your post generated my interest in your 4-slot .... :) .... is it a big red or what?

It's just the mobo and the super gun, no cab. I had hoped to pick up a cab whenever I move out of my parent's house, but as it stands I can't be bothered with that.

My gaming apathy began when the current crop of games started being not quite what I wanted. It has since spread to everything gaming, Neo included, which kinda sucks.

I think I'm just growing out of it, though I doubt I'll ever give it up 100%

I can definitely understand what you're saying. I'm still very interested in gaming in general, but my level of actual playing has gone way, way down over the past couple of years. I'm still watching a good bit of anime, but I can easily see my interest in that fading in a few years. I wonder what I'll be obsessed with after those two...

I hear ya, dude. Last game I bought was Final Fantasy XI for something new and different, but the interest in this game comes and goes. That and pinball. I don't know what it is, but I have a sudden fascination with pin video games, espec. Sonic Pinball Party on the GBA.

If you can make it though the next two months with no interest in games, I'd say hang up your controllers for good. Up the pike, we have:

MGS3:Snake Eater
Gran Turismo 4
Fable
Midway Arcade Treasures II
Donkey Konga
Star Ocean III
Silent Hill 4: The room
GTA: San Andreas
Shadowhearts 2

If those don't get you into gaming, nothing will.

I don't know why I come here anymore either really. There are no new Neo Geo games. The neo is now officially dead. The threads have plummeted. Force of habit I guess.

MGS3 is the only game on your list I'm even remotely interested in. I plan on waiting to pick it up, however, until it's price drops. If I still remember it by then, then that means it's something that at least interests me more than most games these days.

I'll tell ya; the last 5 years, all that I have been divinely interested in is FPS games and the occasional dungeon hack (Diablo series being the big one). The last 10 years, I've lost interest in RPGS (the typical Japanese-style turnbased ones like FF, PS, etc).

And I certainly don't like playing 3rd person perspective 3D games so common on the last 2 system generations. I really just don't care about anything new anymore... well except for the latest FPS games on teh PC.

Just start playing FFXI.

Last game I played for more than 15 minutes was Ninja Gaiden.

Last anime I watched for more than an episode? Must've been at least 4 months ago.

I've moved into "FF addict" status, I'm sure, but I'm not sure I can blame 100% of my apathy on that... I think it's just been a crappy year so far! I haven't so much as looked at a game news site for months, but you know what? I think it'll make these stealth launches (to me) of games like Star Ocean, Metal Gear, and Gradius that much more enjoyable. It's not all bad. ;)

For me it was anime. I was probably in that last post you had 18months ago. I got to the point with anime (after being into it for about 8 years) that I was getting mail order fan subs, going to all conventions in a 500mile radius and having too many damn wall scrolls. Then in about 1999 it just died. It took me untill mid last year (almost 4 years) to buy more than the occasional "OMG!!12 The best since sliced bread" animes. Now I am back into it, but no where as near like before.

I guess you could call me a mainstreamer, with the occasional Go Nagai off shoot. Ranma, Kenshin, Tenchi, Berserk, Excel... all that stuff. I am sure since you had such a large part of your life sunk into video games that some time down the road you will buy up the new system because you see something that sparks your interest, but you will never return to the full "What is on news site X today" style. It happens, it is called life, flow with it.

Anyways, you should stay here none the less and keep posting :D

Valid point, and the same point I made to Merx99 in his 'lost interest in Anime' thread.

Being a 'mainstreamer' isn't necesarily a bad thing, especially since if you're a mainstreamer you save more money by purchasing less. :D

Since you brought up Go Nagai Anime, Demon Lord Dante (Mao-Dante) is censored in the US. Actually, it's censored EVERYWHERE except Japan. That is, unless you get the Japanese R2s or the Guerilla DVDs as MercX99 calls them. The censoring is for nipples and some blood/guts. The content is there, it's just covered over in some weird blackness that, if one didn't know it's censored, you may not ever know.

I've begun checking the forum less frequently and have been sticking in unrelated now for a while. I just feel weird mostly posting about Anime on a video game forum. I realize it's waht unrelated is for, but still...

Yo man, people just have mood swings its normal. There are streches of time where I won't play games, cause well I'm just not interested or busy. Then I read something heard or talk to some friends and I get back into them hardcore. Right now, the NEO GEO is idling, but after moving into my new place and finaling getting some down time, I definitely have the itch back.

Things come and go, don't worry about it. If you want to stop, stop.

Hmm interesting. Is it really that violent? I still have Devilman Lady yet to watch, but right now I am re-watching New Cutey Honey. I would really like to see that new Cutey Honey remake, but I just hear hints about it and Gaigax... still, Cutey honey is so camp I love it. Go Nagai just hits this weird spot with me in anime and I really enjoy it.

Demon Lord Dante/Mao-Dante isn't all that violent. The scenes they color over so far have been nipples, a splash of blood when a guy gets bitten by a demon (though they picture it CLEARLY on the back of the box ) and a couple other blood scenes. Another one I remember is some intestines (I only know what it is because I went looking for other ways to watch the series) were hanging in the library, but in the R1 release the guts are blacked out. Stupid really, considering all the other stuff that is released in the US. Leave it to Enoki (Enoki licensed it from Japan then farm the rights out to other companies, in this instance it was Geneon).

I have re: Cutey Honey DVDs preordered. It's on PPV satelite in Japan now, the first DVD sees release in Sept, with 1 a month following for the next 2 months (finishes in November). I'll let you know how it is. :D

You should really post in the All About Anime thread :D

Actually, I was in that boat for a very long time. It sounds stupid, and you've heard it before, but give it time and you'll get the urge to play again. I took a 5 year vacation from video games and slowly started to get back into it around 2001 (reason I joined this site). I still only played old games I knew, though. Just here in the past 4 months I've started to really get back into video games with Mario Kart parties, and revisiting older newer games I didn't pay any attention to such as Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, and many others.

My question is: do you currently have any friends who enjoy video gaming as much as you did? I ask this because I was just depressed at the state of gaming when I got back into it. I thought the great days were that of the SNES, and that nothing could ever bring those back. I met a good buddy of mine now back in April, and it was odd how a person had such enthusiasm for gaming in today's world. It kind of rubbed off on me, and now I'm looking forward to tons of releases and am playing more and more different shit instead of the same 16bit games I already knew like the back of my hand. Before this guy, all of my friends who liked gaming where either "oh, Street Fighter? I think I remember that.. cool game" or "I guess we could play Tekken.. I like Paul."

I think you just need time to find your groove in things.

I don't have any friends that enjoy gaming as much as I did, nor do most of my friends enjoy games at all. I've hung out with a couple of cool cats off this board, but given the distance it's not like we all hang out all the time. Then when we do get together I get busted on for how bad I suck at games (mostly because I'm out of practice and don't care). :D I don't mind being made fun of for my gaming inability, but I feel bad not giving these guys a challenge when I do show up. When I don't have anyone around I can't be bothered to play fighting games, and let's face it, why have a Neo get together if you're not playing fighters? :D

I've been in a holding pattern for the last 18 months, but the area that the holding pattern covers is getting larger and larger and I don't see it closing back in any time soon. I'll wait it out and see what happens, but I'm not optimistic.

5 years? Means I have another 42 months before I start getting back into games.

I can respect other's opinions, whether I agree with them or not, as it appears so too can you. Now if only the rest of the board(s) I visit were the same...
