UPDATE :) eviction notice

I have been given 4 weeks to vacate my apartment (after living there for ten years and never a complaint or missed rent cheque) :blow_top:

Its a long story, read about it here.

http://www.thenational.com.pg/0827/nation5.htm

There would be a couple of hundred tenants in the same boat- and it sucks imho. I blame the Australian government for not making provisions for thier "advisors'' and the landlords and agents for profiteering. OK I should have got a lease I guess.

There are 7 cabs to be shifted out and there are steps involved. I am really pissed off with the situation.

I wonder if the Australian tax payers realise that the rents are doubling just because they are taking over the accomodation around town. This is more than just a case of supply and demand.

Don't take shit from the goverment. Form a anti-australian movement, bring as many cats into it as possible. Recruit people who have suffered the safe fate as you. Make your HQ in the outback, tame and capture kangaroos. Use those bastard to take down fools on the street. Fund your cause by kangaroo muggins, people know not to mess with mofos on kangaroos. VIVA LA RESISTENCIA!!

that's bullshit.

this kind of thing has happened in the US, only it's known as yuppie-fication. A neighborhood gets cleaned up and becomes "desirable", landlords jack up rent to drive all the old tenents out, and reap the benefits when rich white yuppies are willing to pay exhorbitant prices to live in a new "hip" area of a city.

what's fucked is that in your case, it's not just the landlords, but also the government fucking you over.

Are they gonna help you relocate?

btw what 800k a week ?
Thats like US$ 250, they are upping it to $500.
The thing is that I dont even get the option to pay the increased rent, just a letter to vacate after ten years as a good tenant in the apartment- thanks very much

Those babies are like pianos to shift, plus 5 other cabs and a heap of other stuff (mostly junk) Ive collected over the years, really not looking forward to this.

Bottom line is leases are not such a bad thing. I get the feeling that even if I had a lease, the bastards would find a loop hole and evict anyway :spock:

Man ... that's fucked up. Fucking big brother rearing his ugly head again. There should really be some sort of federal law against this kind of thing, especially since they didn't even give you the option to pay you the increased rent. Man o' man. :oh_no:

There is a deal between the PNG and Australian governments, part of which involves deployment of these Aussie public servants (to keep our guys honest if you like, police, judiciary, public service accountancy, etc) The concept is good, but there was no consideration given for long term residents who suddenly have to vacate to accommodate these clowns (mostly admin pen pushers who could do the same work based in Australia), this not only impacts on expat permanent residents but many Papua New Guineans also. The rent hikes and evictions are passed right down the line. They will leave in 2-3 years having achieved nothing.
I hope they bring plenty of vallium and prozac, they will need it.

edit: the deal is probably unconstitutional in the first place.

Sorry- didnt mean to get into the politics of all this.

The day I vacate the apartment I will shove a few prawn heads down into the hollow curtain rails, it will take some time for the source of the foul stench to be located, the blow flies will probably give it away. Just a parting jesture :loco:

What BS. If only PNG had rent control... unfortunately I highly doubt that. The country probably has bigger problems that worrying about tenant's rights.

I feel for you.

Trouble is that many politicians own tenanted properties (often purchased with thier ill gotten gains), so they are unlikely to pass any bills that will protect tenants rights.

At the end of the day here, no lease = no rights.

I see. I'm all about small government, but that's a little overboard ....

Boy, that'll leave an awful stench in the place and they deserve that and more.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Hope you find a new place for yourself and your games. Gool luck :)

I think I may have someplace lined up, not far away from here, the rent has just gone up 50% but at least Ill have somewhere to live (and theres plenty of room for the cabs). Trouble is there are around 200 ex-tenants in town in the same predicament as I am, all looking for apartments and they are as scarce as rocking horse shit now that the Aussies have tied them up. Will know for sure tommorrow.

Whats going to happen is that people will have to settle for cheaper (lower security) accommodation and end up being done over, burgled if lucky or worse if not.

Anyway guys thanks for the kind sentiment.

That prawn idea will be great.

Make sure you place them when they're fresh so that it'll take longer to develop :D

The last day, I'd load up on beans and salsa and just shit in every corner of your apartment before you vacate. Seriously, with such a disrespectful eviction, you've been given license to ACT A FOOL. Do it.

There's gotta be some local Neo heads that would gladly give you and the twins a place to stay, in exchange for some free play love.

Good luck dude.

Loosen the bolts and screws on everything! particularly plumbing.

That way over time things will start falling off or leaking. Lots of potential fun there.

Remember to release some insects into insulation or places where they can propogate.

Also:
If you have white walls you can also write in bleach and hope the next tenant has a blacklight. If they do, whatever you wrote in bleach will suddenly appear like invisible writing. Have fun with what you write :) The more creepy the better!

Thanks for the tips Bobak, I also hear that writing on the walls with a wax candle (like a crayon) is good, When they repaint, as they will after ten years the otherwise invisible wax will not take the paint, it just slides off.

"The Landlord is a Cunt" comes to mind.
