you seen how much they cost in the UK? £90 - $160 for a GBA... no thanks

My standard GBA cost me £40 of play-asia, and I didn't picture it as bad as it is

Ah well, at least it's a nice size to hold

All versions of the GBA suck. The SP is a piece of junk, screen is washed out and dull looking, system is too small and not comfortable to hold, dpad is horrible (will trash your thumb on any action style game). Why so many of these have sold is a mystery to me, I dumped all my GBA stuff a long time ago. Waste of money . . . :oh_no:

The cross pad on the GCN controller is the EXACT same part as the GBA/SP cross pad, and it sucks just as bad as the GBA/SP's, obviously.

I just use the GB Player for GB games these days. Get a better controller for an enhanced (ie. a fucking pad that won't blister your thumbs) cross pad and all is well.

I drive myself everywhere, so it's not like I can play it while I travel, and if I'm playing at home, why should I be going blind on the GBA, or waste money on an SP when I can play on a big ass TV?

I believe that the GCN's cross pad is the same as the standard GBA, but the SP's is a different style all together.

sp>>>>>>>>player>gba

and i only put the player in front of the gba because it doesnt have lighting issues. its still a pos and would prefer a gba over it though.

There are two good lights for the GBA that I've found, both use little flourescent striplights. This provides an even light across the screen and not just two little points of light with big ole reflections.
One was called the 'Illuminator' in the UK and has a built-in magnifyer, but its quite big and bulky. The other is just a light and I think was called the 'floodlight'. Important thing is, it has to be the neon striplight type, not the little bulbs types!
I'll have a look online and see if I can find any pictures.........

FLO-LIGHT (not Flood Light!)
Check:

You could probobly find one of these easily, and they are the best solution, not too bulky, good battery life, covers the screen, adjustable, folds flat!
Dixons and Game sold them (dixons still had stocks recently)
The Illminator was being sold off cheap in HMV and Virgin recently, woolworths and MVC also stocked it.

One of the nice things about the sp is that unlike most handhelds it can be carried around in your pocket without worry about the screen, etc. due to the clamshell design. Between the original GBA and it there's just no comparison.

Why don't you just get a GBA SP?

I've had a First gen GBA with an afterburner mod and it displays much more brilliant colors than the washed out SP.

The feel of the GBA is ergonomically way better than the SP. The SP only has ( smaller ) mobility and battery advantages. It even lacks a headphone socket ( lame ).

I didn't realize the Afterburner mod could look that good. But I agree completely about the ergonomics of the GBA vs. SP, and the other things you mentioned. The SP was a big disappointment IMO. That, and the horribly dim GBA screen, are why I dumped all my games (about 20) and the system a while ago, for almost nothing. :oh_no:
