hey im new here, i'm not even a real SNK enthusiast or anything, but i have to respect SNK because they are the underground Capcom

ANYWAYS!

I just decided to get into an old DC game with some friends, and its KOF99DM, which i though was a good game exept for the backgrounds.

so, I knew there would be a following only somewhere, and i just wanna ask some questions:

1. How popular is 99DM now? I bet its only an underground thing that groups of friends play, or loners who wanna obsess on a fun 2D fighter, but i'm not sure, but i dont think its as popular as Alpha3, is that a good assumtion? I mean i know it isnt as popular as 3rd Strike or MvC2, cuz those are the "new and popular" 2D fighters that everyone plays. I just wanna know if this game is mainstream at all anymore, like if its possable to find a tourney in the USA, or if its just 2-3 kids playing this game because they have nothing better than dreamcast.

2. How intense does 99DM get? I just recently saw some Alpha3 videos and there are beggining to death combos that are inescapable, which i find to really get depressing, knowing that at a certaqin skill level, its BASICALLY who ever gets the 1st hit wins, (though i still love alpha 3). I just wanna know if this game has that same level of crazyness, or if its toned down.

3. Also, in alpha 3 there are all these "tech" things that you can perform to evade and stuff, like tech rolls, or tech wake ups from air juggles, ect.... does this game have allot of that? if so tell me about it.

THANKS ALLOT!

Oh no you didn't! Search the boards for KOF'98. It's one of the most praised KOFs ever. You'll have no trouble getting competition if you can find a group of "neophytes" in your area.

It's toned down. For in-depthness, check out SonGohan's thread here.

Not so much anything that I can think of. But I'm sure Takumaji or SonGohan can tell you better.

thanks, im real glad that dreammatch is still loved!!!!

i think its good because of the variety in characters, though i would have liked it to have dramatic battle, and smoother sprites, but gameplay is cool
