I got to be honest and say I don't really understand what it's for. The way PMs used to be, you knew the person had received the PM without any extra confirmation anyway.

I'd say it's useful in seeing if someone I'm buying/selling from/to is actually reading the PMs... then again he can hit cancel and say "Oh I never saw it sorry". The old way was better.
