I'm curious as to what stores the Neo was sold in in the US. I was only like 9 when it came out, so I don't really remember it. I don't recall seeing it at places like Toys R Us or Meijers, so I'm wondering, was it a Babbages or FAO Schwartz thing or what?

I first saw it for sale at the local Electronics Boutique, I actually bought mine brand new from a Software Etc store. They never really had lot of shelf-space for the Neo,(only like 3 or 4 games) but it definitely got lots attention from customers :D

We had some Local Videostores, where you could bought a Neo-Geo AES Silver- or Goldset!
That was a long time ago, today just on eBay or in the selling section!
That´s makes me sad, but equal, keep your heads up.
The Neo-Geo NEVER dies...

I bought my first Neo AES from a chain of stores called Solid Gold about 10 years ago.

That company collapsed about 6 years ago

I remember Software Etc. and Babbages selling it 10 years ago or so. Later on (and very briefly), Funco got in on the act, but later dropped it.

I remember seeing the Neo at a local shopping store (Meijer). This was around 1992 though.

A chain of stores called "Masco World Of Games" used to sell them here, another chain named "Games Express" sold them as well....I almost got a NeoGeo at one time, but got a 3do instead (both were about the same price with games).

There were quite a few other electronic stores and other videogame stores. I think even Hammacher Schlemmer sold them at one time.

This local video game store called " Knights Video Games " sold the Gold and Silver set , around the time the SNES came out .

Other than that , the only other place I'd find it for sale was video game mags .

Yeah, I remember when CompUSA carried game consoles (10+ years ago), Neo-Geo was there... Good times... Going in, playing the hell out of the machines, not spending a penny... ;)

Maro GmbH was one of the Best Stores, who´ve sold that AES in Europe, specially in Germany.
They had lots of payment-options, really great guys and good conditions.
Today they´re not up-to-date...Wonder what happened!!!

Thank you everyone! I guess I should have taken my nose out of the SNES rack at Toys R Us back in the early 90s. The Neo Geo was quite oblivious to me until 99, when I really started collecting. This goes on my page...

I talked to one of them on the phone just a couple of months ago (I was asking him about some Neo CD releases). They still had a web site up back then, complete with online shop, but it wasn't maintained anymore.

The guy on the phone said that they're going into liquidation. Ppl didn't buy games and systems from them anymore, and when the internet (and thus online game shops) finally got grip in Germany, their sales plummeted and the had to draw a line.

They're still out there - I guess we will see them again in about a year or so. They were too cool'n'freaky to get outta biz this way...

It's still sad to see such a great distributor go... Maro was our connection to the Neo world.

I could be mistaken about this, but WAY back in the day (around 1992-94), I seem to remember a mail order company by the name of Chips & Bits selling Neo-Geo consoles. A few other mail order places that come to mind are Games Express (still around; http://www.gexpress.com) and the now-defunct Game Cave.
