Man, Toys R Us used to get in games before release date. Then the retards working there would grab one for me from the back, not knowing any better. I'm gonna miss that.

Man, I've had great memories of that place. From saving up a ton of money and walking to Toys R Us (it was about a mile from my house) and buying legos, to just playing and buying the games from there. Some really really great memories.

While I will miss them (I got my first NES from them) I hope to reap the benifits of going out of business sales... :crying:

Toys R' Us was one of my earliest expereinces of "home away from home." I one day dreamed winning the Nickelodeon Super Toy Run, but alas. Christmases and birthdays were the absolute best for me for my folks knews it was game time. I mean, a majority of my time stay at Toys R' Us was in the video game department. Matter of fact, it was the 1st time I saw Neo Geo for sale and couldn't believe the prices for the console and the games at the time. Oddly enough, my game history at TRU went as follows:
NES
Genesis
Game Gear
Saturn.

Plus, there were also the Halloweens, the new bikes, the board games, the action figures, and so on. Sadly, my local TRU back home went out of business a looooong time ago and since then has become a Korean Church. I'm not surprised that the end days of TRU are near, but at least I got to experience it in the heydays of the '90s. A Toys R' Us kid? You bet!

Kids are gay nowadays :(

Seriously why do so many kids have cell phones etc? Feh, wonder if I'm becoming a bitter old man at 19. I still buy toys for myself, not in a collecting way, they usually get taken out of packaging and get semi-displayed. But where are the kids like I was out there buying every god damned retarded ass character they could think up for He-Man or TMNT? Shit some of those guys were stupid looking back, but I had a blast. Mom never did let me get the Technodome :(

Speaking of toy stores, anybody here remember Lionel Toys/Kiddie City? I remember that place was the first to get the TG-16 and Turbo Express, and they were super-overpriced. As TG-16 faded, so did they. But I did love going there, and I still have some TG-16 games sealed with their stickers on them :)

That's pretty sad. I remember going there as a youngster with my cousin and getting the original Castlevania :( .... good times. I also remember going there and getting Ninja Kid .... not so good times.

I wonder how Kay Bee toys is doing these days? Are they gonna give up the toy business too? :(

Kay Bee Toys went bankrupt 4 months ago... It seems like my youth is almost gone. These toy mecha's were dream destinations for a small town kid like me. When I moved to the city for college four or five years ago I got to go in for the first time. It was just how I thought it would be. I still love going in everyonce in a while... I guess that is almost gone. Walmart's toy section sucks my ass!

I'm not surprised to hear this, Toys R Us seemed to be on the decline for awhile now. I remember going in there this past Christmas and it was practically empty. I have a lot of good memories of going to Toys R Us too. :(
I still see a Kay Bee every now and then, but a lot of them have closed down.

and increasingly shunned by kids moving on to fancy cell phones and iPods at younger ages, Toys R Us (TOY) says it might shed its toy business in a major restructuring.

The company, eager to maximize its fast-growing Babies R Us unit

Or how about all these young sluts having kids to early :p

Sad news none the less, I'm still getting over Child World closing down...

Yeah, I don't know what's the deal, but apparently the baby store is that untapped, unrealized consumer niche vacuum that hasn't been addressed very well until recently. In my town there's like baby shops opening up everywhere, whoudathunkit?

The only positive thing I can think of this, and probably a very sinister short term plus is:

When the Toys R us(s) Close down, there will be clearances and you can go and get the toys at clearance-rape prices...

I remember getting alot of Sega Genesis, And Sega CD games for dirt cheap, like 5$ brand new, back in the day, when one closed down...

I felt sad when I'd drive by the deserted building :crying: like all of you say... "Such good memories."

Toy's R Us, 89-98....man those were great times. Great toys and great selection of videogames at that time :buttrock: I pretty much stopped going there after that. I hate R-Zone

I use to get Transformers all the time from Toys R Us. Hell, I still do. I bought the Sideswipe and Smokescreen Alternators toys from them as well as a few of the old Generation 1 re-issues. I know the old re-issues were exclusive to TrU, so I wonder what will happen with that. It's a shame I didn't make it in time to get Optimus and Magnus again. I certainly miss those two. I went through like 5 Optimus Prime's as a kid, broke everyone of them.

yet another thing from my childhood is going, and while it is sad to see I take comfort in the fact that...

so a seriously reduced price may be just the thing to convince me to plunk down for an X-Box

I have some pretty good memories from a consumer's perspective but this place is the equivalent of a prehistoric Wal-mart . I am pretty sure Wal-Mart studied the TRU blue print and now are shoving it right back in their face.
TRU was the downfall of the small business toy store which were absolutely individual wonderlands of FUN so I'm not sad to know they'll be swallowed by the monster they've created.

This doesn't shock me at all. The Toys R Us I used to go to started sucking a while ago. They had like a real small section of toys and everything else is baby stuff. Toys R Us was dead a long time ago in my book. Kinda sad though I used to buy stuff from there alot but it's not like we couldn't see this coming.

Here it was known as Lionel's Playworld and they were the only ones at the time that stocked the Neo-Geo AES systems and some of the obscure games and stuff.
