I just wanted to know what TV's best suit the Neo*Geo AES System. I rather not talk about my piece of crap tv. I'm looking for what size screen and namebrand as well. Thanks!

32" Wega, an excellent choice for gaming!

Whatever set you buy (if your planning to buy a TV in the 32"+ range) make sure it has 480p/HDTV compatible, so you can play games and DVDs in progressive scan mode. That's assuming the devices can output that signal, of course.

So the Sony Wega TV is the way to go? How much do they run for? I might have to buy a new tv anyhow.

That's the way to go!

I own that too, and Neo games (and all systems in general) does look graphically superior using this TV.

Highly recommended...

Widescreen is the way to go.

I can't afford Sony, Panasonic is a good cheaper alternative and dropping to 28" saves a lot, that’s what we use for AES here.

The Wega CRT is probably the best you can buy tho...

I opted for the Toshiba 32" flat screen model. It has the same options of the Sony VVega and was 50$ more (899$), But I prefer Toshiba over Sony, plus I thought the TV itself looked nicer. I can't comment on performace differences, but I can tell you that you won't be dis-satisfied with the Toshiba 32". When I looked at the two televisions side by side in the store, the Sony screen appeared almost square, as the Toshiba screen was more of a rectangular shape, which is better I think, especially for movies. Just my 2c.

Either model has 2 S-Video inputs, and 3 A/V inputs, perfect for the video gamer/DVD lover, and also under a grand.

i have a 20" toshiba fst (like the 32" previously mentioned)

its really great. i has 1 svideo, 3 av, and component! (the only tv smaller than this with component is the toshiba 14"...the vega's dont have it at this size :p )

not to mention that the sound kicks the ass off of any vega. it sounds amazing.

and i did a side by side comparison of a vega and a fst, the fst looked alot better, image quality, and asthetically

definately worth it :D

they also make a combo tv/dvd model (14" and 20")

I got a 27" proscan that I paid $200 for. It has S-Video and component. It's good for what ails me.

So either the Sony or Toshiba TV? Hmmmmmmmm....... So the Toshiba TV has better sound, as the Sony TV has a better picture. 27-32 inches is the best way to go too? Now am wondering what I should buy now. Any other tv's that are good out there?

To say that either the Toshiba or Sony has better sound, or picture quality over the other is rather subjective. Your best bet at this point, now that you know the most popular TV sets chosen by your neo geo friends, is to go to your local Circuit City, or Best Buy and check em out in person. At least now you know what to look for when you get there. :D

(pssst...go with Toshiba)

Every time I shopped at Circuit City, the items I buy have lower prices than the tags suggest. So when I got my TV it said $250 but it cost $200... and my VCR was $120 but then marked down to $100...

So, go to CC.

36" Sony Vega XBR2 HDTV...Best out there for a tube. Very costly though. Worth it for me.

BTW...Its Vega not Wega. If you look closely, its a "V" with its own shadow behind it making it look like a "W". Pet peive of mine is when people pronouce it Wega.

:)

My stupid ol' GE 27" isn't doing any justice.

My main setup is on a 32" widescreen Sony which I thinks great for picture etc.
But I also have a 28" widescreen Philips, that is not even NTSC/RGB compatable so I have to run it through a NTSC-PAL convertor which is shit for a two year old TV.

It's definitly cool to have a quality TV to play your games on. However, due to the high cost of quality widescreen TV'S in the UK and the fact the TV I use for games is only for that purpose I've opted for a Thompson 32" Widescreen TV. Fantastic sound, surround available alomg with all those pointless zoom features.

The Sony 40" Wega is awesome, but I'm not playing videogames on a £2,000 TV!!

I'm quite fond of my Loewe too - great for DVD :)

Not to be a dickhead  , but I reckon playing games on my 42" Sony HDTV is just brilliant...

Even normal AV output looks stunning, I might as well try RGB later on to see how they look like...

I play my AES with S video through a 20inch PC moniter . Its sooo bright and clear !

For the price of a new TV you could just buy a Candy cab and that truely has the best picture .

I think it's fair to say that getting a flat screen TV from Sony, Toshiba, Phillips, Panasonic, or JVC that is either HDTV or not will more than satisfy your gaming needs. Without everyone banging their chests and boasting the TVs they own, their choices are as obvious as the fact that they own them, not that they are the best selection.

I personally love the 34" Panasonic Tau widescreen, but it is not NECESSARY for enjoying a low-resolution Neo Geo. DVD movies would take better advantage of such a television.

If you want an affordable solution and not one that is, although the best choice, the most expensive, first try any 27"-32" Trinitron, JVC D series or any GOOD name brand standard model that does not have too much glare on the screen.

Those two sizes are ideal for a any good gaming system and one from a good manufacturer (I use a 32" Hitachi, beautiful color and picture). As for sound, anyone here will tell you that no television is a substitute for a stereo setup. Even a two channel setup will be more than adequate. If you own a surround sound system, use that (Neo games are 2D and therefore the surround speakers are used to minimal effect).

By no means do I say that the above suggestions are bad, simply that you don't have to get the ultimate TV to fully enjoy a good video game.

Just my 3 cents.

I have a HDTV 34" Tau Panasonic widescreen set which I bought to play games on and watch dvd's and I agree with Argentina94 on the point that the NEO GEO is not capable of taking advantage of the picture.
But the newer systems ala Dreamcast and Gamecube. Biohazard picture is stunning and so are dvd's through progressive scan and component connection. And everything fills the widescreen so it looks cool.
Since 1993 I have been using my trusty 29" s-video Panasonic flat with 750 lines of resolution which I thought games looked good on but compared to my newer Panni.

Last week i've played on a LCD projector, that's a great experience too. If you have a good white screen (up to 2 meters) and a high quality projector, it's a must a have. For both movie and Neo gaming, it's incredible! Plus, you can get the sound on a surround system of your choice. It's pricy, but it worth it!
