So instead of giving Shenmue fans what they want, a new sequel, they are going to add to the already flooded MMORPG genre? This doesn't really make sense to me.

Eh,

It's not a terrible idea, Shenmue would be a rich environment for a MMORPG...

Still I'm not buyin' it and I would buy a Shenmue 3

(Still need to finish Shenmue 2 on DC) :emb:

Funny enough, I kind of have to agree. Shenmue online is just not Shenmue. Like the others, here, I'm more psyched for a Shenmue 3. That's what I really want.

Oh well. There's still Outrun 2.

Exactly.
Finish what has already been started before taking the series off on some drastically different tangent.

Ok, that's just frickin' weird and I'm too lazy to download Adobe Acrobat Reader right now to read the press release (just formatted).

It may not be that bad, it might just involve the environment of Shenmue, I highly doubt they could do much with the Shenmue story in MMORPG form.

It's Sega we're talking about, so it might turn out ok, they should know what they're doing really.... *sounds confident*

Now if there was some way to incorporate a massive arcade of Sega titles and have them playable with other people in thw virtual world, then I would kinda be excited.

That would be fucking cool. But no need for a Shenmue for that ;)

oh no...

I've never been a fan of MMORPG's.... I can't believe they did this to shenmue.

I don't know what to expect, the budget is 28 Million Dollars, and it's going to be on the PC... And the battles will be real time... so that's good I guess

Master, Hong Xiu Ying looks good in that pic.

But wtf is up with the fireballs... Fireballs in Shenmue.. I guess it has to do with ryo's hidden tallent/calling or whatever...but still I didn't really expect that...

Have any of you took the time out of your busy, important lives and actually PLAYED an MMORPG? They are pretty fun when you get into them.

1.) 'Mue makes an excellent backdrop for an online game. Too bad the story supports the environment, and online games have never been about story; more about level building, junk collecting, and item getting.

2.) China and Korea? From what little I know, Internet is hella xpensive anywhere but the US, and the charge is per minute, so people usually use internet cafes, camping out on online games for hours at a time.

3.) I wonder if we'll ever see this game here? 'Mue II barely made it out. Even if we do, you can bet it'll take a CPU with lotsa horsepower to run it.

4.) Ryo using Fireballs? Gay.

What's the deal with Sega getting into the MMORPG ring? They are also doing "The Matrix Online". and now this. I don't know if it's a bad thing, but it just seems odd that a company who really hasn't done too much with only RPGs (past PSO) would go into this all of a sudden. Either they are going to make good games or just join the bandwagon.

Cause it's easy. You just need to make a engine. Story and so on it's not needed.

And for us old schoolers, it's SHIT. How can we play this shit 10 years from now?

Agreed, this stuff will be nothing but useless crap 10 years from now.

I was a bit leery about the whole "magic" thing at the conclusion of Shenmue II...I hoped the series would try to retain the realistic/everyday approach. Sadly, it looks like Ryo Hazuki has fallen prey to the DBZ fireball throwing. BULLSHIT LIE it is!

But seriously... what's the point in a Shenmue online? A The Sims at the streets?

That's what I can't exactly figure out either.

Shenmue 1 had the realistic depiction of the towns/harbor going for it along with the storyline.

Shenmue 2 had larger cities to traverse. The storyline started to make some sense while new mysteries revealed themselves.

Shenmue Online? Without the story, what else does this series have going for it in MMORPG form? It's not like the characters are that appealing to 95% of the mainstream gaming public. Are we going to see a bunch of Ryo and Ren's roaming about picking fights with Megumi and Inesan while adhering to a 24 hour day cycle?
I just don't see how this can work...

Yah. Virtual "Mad Angels" factions (with some Sailors thrown in for good measure!) will roam and terrorize the streets of Yokosuka.

Meh. If this game really does see the light of day, I'll probably buy it and run my own virtual Tomato Convenience Store.

Nah. the top notch events will be special releases of new virtual capsule toys :spock:

EDIT: just read the PR. Meh, it's online because it targets the chinese market. Due the massive piracy and fast growing number of internet users, it's a godd way to earn easy buck without need to care about piracy.

They can copy the software, but must pay for accounts.

China sucks.

If they put every last dime they make from this into a proper Shenmue 3 then I have nothing bad to say. *grabs gun and looks out the window* By any means necessary.
