Just wondering how it stacked up, loading times, resolution, etc.
Anyone know? :eye: :eye:

It's an arcade perfect port.

Loading time (which is practically non-existent), controls, graphics, colors, animation, audio (it actually features both the DC arranged soundtrack and the original 'cade version), and the SFX have been cleaned-up a bit so it sounds more true-to-life than the DC version.

And most importantly it fixes the input lag that plagued the DC version - so now it's a truly perfect port.

In short: If you have a PS2 and love your fighters, then there's no reason not to buy it, even if you already own the DC version.

I just got mine from Play-Asia about a week ago, and have played it a bit, though not exhaustively.

Overall, it's much improved from the DC port - the build is based on the arcade version, apparently, and as a result, corrects for combos and certain hits only possible in that version, as opposed to the DC one.

I'm not much of a great SF series player, but I've been enjoying it a ton. The biggest changes to my eye have been in the graphics - it feels sharper in terms of resolution than the DC version, with better definition, and perfect screen size, and surprisingly, there are close to zero loading times. In fact, I was somewhat shocked at how minimal the loads are. Music is great, as it always was, but I don't recognize anything significantly different from the DC port - it could be just my imagination, but the defaut balance of music to sound effects seems improved.

As far as gameplay goes, it's the same game you know and love. Frankly it feels like a perfect port in every way. The DC rev was already great, and this just added little touches of refinement. I'm sure others will have more in-depth analyses of the mechanics, but overall I'd say that this is in every way an improvement on the DC version, and a great port.

When I tried it at E3, it felt like it was missing frames or something. Something just a bit...choppy, or something. I'm really happy this aparently isn't the case. I'd get it regardless...

Yep, all the issues have been fixed, making it a truly perfect port. I'm not a huge SF3 guy, but I sure do dig it. Now I just have to figure out what to do with my DC version.

Just got jap PS2 SF3:3rd Strike and the Hyper SF2 anniversary box set. Haven't played both too much yet, but from the few rounds of testing... I'd say it's better than the jap DC version. A definite must buy for the SF fans.

Word! No wonder the DC fely awkward when I try to practice the Genei-Jin combo (Yun's SA3). Lack of frames.

Hey has anyone seen live 3rd Strike tourneament match videos with Yun in them?

Everytime a Japanese 3S player does the Genei Jin combo, you can hear the crowd chanting "HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEEEEEEYYYYY!" with the rhythm of the combo's hits. Hilarious shit.

Wow. I can't belive that people are actually able to agree that a PS2 version is better than the DC counterpart.

Amazing.

well seeing as the DC version came out 4 years ago, they've had plenty of time to get it right.

in fact , this shouldn't have seen the light of day at all. pour some resources into a new street fighter capcom, instead of porting the dc library onto current gen consoles.

Actually, Urein's aegis has one extra hit. (this was found out at evo)
Did they use the PS2 version for the tourney or the real thing?

Hey Gibs, since I'm a dial up cripple, can you burn me those CvS2/3S SBO matches? I just love getting a kick out of hearing that certain crowd reaction! :buttrock: I watch the Evolution DVD and a match video of a tourney straight from Japan where guys that speak no English are going HEY! a whole lot.

EDIT: I'd really love to know. When and where did that trend start?

Thanks man, that video is incredible, it took awhile to download 163 Megs, and the vid is 1 hour long...

But it was worth it...

At about 37 minutes into it, they switch from CVS2 to Third Strike, and someone starts OWNING with YUN, and just as expected the crowd goes Hey, hey , hey, HEY!!! it's really cool... I loved it.

lol evo this year was console only, which is why everyone got all upset.

and for the guy asking for a link - http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/thread68438.php

kind've messed with the best known fighting game tourny turns to console only....

I knew it was all console, but I remember MrWizard saying that SF3TS will be the CPS-3 version. Lots of people who went told me it wasn't as good as it was last year, lots of people would pause the game, some people had their controls glitch up on them...well, basically, I heard more bad than good. They should just switch back to the real things.

I agree 100 percent, from what i've read they controls were really fucked. To the CPS-3 version, yeah, they did have a super gun, but i'm pretty sure they played matches on the PS2 version too. (from what I understand, hell I wasn't there). I agree about sticking to arcade, I think it would be easier to play on arcade cabinets, and more people would probably come then.

(also A3 was on super gun too)

I'm expecting my copy to arrive this afternoon because I had pre ordered Winning Eleven and it was just released...

From what I've been reading its the best port out for 3s. But Urein's aegis has one extra hit. It was found out at evo and then they have moved the match to the supergun....

Lemme guess, the guy using Yun in the video, it's gotta be "K.O." right?

As far as I know, K.O. is Japan's badass Yun player.
