behold.

The min spec and it runs perfectly playable with ALL visual candy on. Just incredible. Who have guessed that a GeForce4MX would run it? (Remember that GeForce4mx < GeForce 3)

The article also include various configurations depending of various cpus and gfx cards (AthlonXP 1500+, 2500+, 3000, pentium 4 1.5.. etc each one using different vpu that range from Ati8500 to GeForce6800 ultra)

oh, only for WinXp/2k. No Me/98

I'm actually pretty amazed at that.

Five more days...

Yeah, it's pretty impressive that a GF4MX will run it, but it's pretty much a given now that any game engine designed by Carmack is going to give solid performance without the need for the latest hardware. I'm really excited to see what other developers can do with the game engine. Unfortunately, you will still be missing visual candy with those low end cards. Since the GF3 and GF4MX are DirectX 7 cards, you will be missing the DirectX 9 effects like the heat haze that these cards aren't capable of doing.

I'm not going to play this game at 640x480, that's for sure. I will try 1024x768, and if it doesn't go well I will not go lower than 800x600. Oh, and I have P4 2.4ghz, 512mb RAM and Radeon 9200 128 mb.

Doom3 is the pinnacle of waste of time.
is there ANYTHING new or interesting about this game besides new graphics?
No? oh, right, its just "shoot everything that moves" just like doom 1 and 2. Fuck that noise.

Naw, this game is much more of an exercise in freakish atmosphere, with an emphasis on horror rather than runnin' and gunnin'. Careful use of ammo is apparently a must in this game, if you just run around popping off you will run dry and be SOL.

I'd say give it a chance before you rip it a new one.

I'd rather it be gun and run, that's what DOOM is all about anyway.

No it wont. According to iD, the computer that can run doom3 at full quality at high res doesnt exist yet.

I may give it a try (when the Mac version is ready) but im not expecting to be impressed.

Meh Run and Gun is fun, and i'm sure Doom 3 will have its share of frantic moments, but I agree with Loopz. Doom 3 is all about the atmosphere. Its about whats lurking behind the next door or whats around the corridor and are you going to be able to take it on. I fooled around with that leaked alpha awhile back and while it ran like ass you could still really start to see what ID was going for with this game. I can't wait.

I played the leaked Alpha last year, and the game scared me then, running windowed in 640x480 at 20 frames a second.

I'm sure it'll freak more than a few people out this time around.

But really, why call it DOOM then?

Sometimes, it is genius to pull up a dead series and bring it back with modern mechanics (Metroid being an example). These cases are, for the most part, rare. THe game mechanics and style that made DOOM a hit are long gone, and the game never had the opportunity to ease into modern technology. At this point, it is difficult to say it is being ressurected to adopt anything DOOM, except a name to sell on.

So this DOOM II I'm playing...isn't gonna have much to do with DOOM 3. DOOM was dead too long, and too cold, and now it's just a name to sell on since nobody gives a fuck about the Quake name since Unreal and Halo came out.

I have faith the game will be beyond expectations. I have no problem in giving ID and Activision my money for it.

Pinnacle of optimization you say huh?

Shit Doom 3 runs at about 20FPS timedemo demo1 after optimizations on my IBM Thinkpad R40!!!
Specs:
533FSB
1.3G Centrino
512MB DDR RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 16MEG

Uh... did you just say 16MEG? Yep. DOOM 3 really doesn't seem to care if I onlly have 16MEG on my videocard. On top of that, enabling bumpmaps actually makes no difference to framecount!

We had a LAN party last nite for some DOOM3 DM and stuff and had to lug my desktop and 19" NEC flatscreen over... pain in the ass... well now that I have gotten DOOM3 to work on the laptop... wow really id Software really know their shit.

I couldn't agree with you more.

I've been hooked to this game the last couple of nights over at a friend's house. It's much more than just Run n' Gun. Conserving ammo is a must. We've had a lot of situations using just grenades.

I don't even like the FPS stuff. This game has definitely turned my head away from eveything else. The Sound is Incredible. Must be experienced. The scare tatics are definitely there.

Must play more. Must unleash HELL! :make_fac:
