"- The Japanese arcade magazine Arcadia reported that Takumi and Taito are working on a new sequel to the vertical scrolling shooter Giga Wing, called Yoku Shin Giga Wing Generations. The game runs on Taito's new Windows XP based arcade system Taito TypeX."

This looks promising. I loved the other Giga Wings games, so I hope this on will be good. Al they have on it is one picture of the title screen. Here's hoping they make another good one.

That is the best news so far this week. I wasted so many hours on Giga Wing 2... the ridiculous score kept me going back time and time again. Here's hoping for a 30 plus digit score this time around.

Well, technically it was in a way, but Takumi really developed it and Capcom slapped its' name on in.

Historically, yeah...Microsoft Windows deserves a whole lotta hate.
XP though...never crashed on me ONCE. Fucking solid.

A streamlined, no bullshit arcade board based on a PC should have no troubles if it's running XP. Seriously.

I played both GigaWing games, loved the soundtrack to GW2, but found the gameplay on both of them sorta meh.

Actually, it's new hardware from Taito called Type X. (edit: whoops didn't realize ths was explained in the original quote, sorry) I don't exactly know how similiar this new hardware is to the X-Box based hardware...

GW2 was on Naomi, GW1 & MM were on CPS-2, and (I assume) Capcom might also have the rights and/or distribution for those games. Now that Capcom is getting out of the arcade business, I would assume Takumi was looking for someone to do the distro work, thus they got in touch with Taito.

Like I said in the shooter thread, I think there's a good chance we'll see this for consoles only because Taito has been publishing a ton of shooters lately.

A lot of discussion on this over at the MK2 boards. People over there are wondering about a possible port as well. Will current systems be able to handle it, namely Xbox it being the most powerful out right now? I think it's more than likely. Yeah, the new hardware it's running on is pretty powerful, but I doubt the game uses it's potential fully (as much as we Gigawing fans may want it to). Even still, Doom III is coming to Xbox, and that's pretty much the top benchmark wise for PC's, right (I'm honestly not sure because I don't do PC gaming)?

At any rate, glad it's coming out. Here's to hoping we see a home port. PS2 seems to be the current shooter system, let's hope the hardware can handle it...

That's nice, I like the two GW games for DC, the first one more than the 2nd one if I want to play for score, but part 2 is special in its own way.

I don't care that the new GW runs on an XP-based arcade board, this only means that I'll get an Xbox port and that's okay for me!

I just can't stand Gigawing 1, but I liked 2 quite a lot, so I'm looking forward to this one.

And about putting all the shooter-specific news in one thread, well, I think relevant news deserve their own thread. For some reason I always skip stickied topics, and don't feel like having to browse through dozens of pages and hundreds of posts with opinions to find some news from time to time. That being said, Gradius V should have its own thread too.

I dunno man, my laptop was one of the first models to come with XP installed, and it's buggy as hell. Mind you I bought the thing almost four years ago, so I have no idea if MS has improved XP at all, and the problem may just be my model of computer... but, my older PC ran much much better with Millenium.

Sorry, I don't see any logic at all in having to browse through 100s of posts about how to obtain a 23566322 chain and 23788655 gazillions of points in XXX shooter just in order to know when will the new shooters be released. I like shooters, but I am a casual gamer and never pay attention to my score, combos nor trying to 1 credit a game.
