Why the hell do so many loose MVS carts have the serial number scratched off? Its not like they were all stolen. What's the real reason?

When SNK sold mvs carts to arcades, the would record the serial number. For some reason it was against the law or something of that nature for the arcades to resell the carts. So there would remove the serials so they would get in trouble.

Yup. removing the serial #'s would mean that SNK could not know that a distrib sold the cart since they were missing.
That stupid ass rule of no re-sale should have never been in effect to begin with.

Unfortunately, I believe it continues in Japan to this day - if not, it has at least been proposed. Some game companies over there forbid the resale of their products, so even after you buy it - it's still not really yours! :oh_no:
