It's an age thing. Many people here weren't reading yet in the early 80s. Many more had no exposure to Japanese comics then. When Dragon Ball fist appeared in Shonen Jump, I thought, "There's no way he'll match the success he had with Dr. Slump," which shows how much I know. I guess I was right about Terasawa and Cobra, though.

toriyama did illustrate dragon quest 4 and chrono chross
Those are games, you numbskull. The Dragonquest comic that ran in Jump was created by 3 people, none of whom were Toriyama. It was about 30 volumes of pure crap. Also, the crossover between Dr. Slump and Goku happened in the Dragon Ball comic, not Dr. Slump.

@Dashk, have you even ever read Dr. Slump?

The original Dragon Ball was actually great (Goku as a kid), you gotta give it to the man, Dragon Ball had a lot of humor. Dragon Ball Z on the other hand is a piece of @#$%^&

I never did read the manga but I did watch the Anime series. They used to air couple years ago here (I'm in Mexico if you're wondering)

From my impression from the anime, well it definately was FAR from being great, but it was a pretty good show to watch while you were bored or eating or something.

Lots of toilet humor, very sex oriented, and Dr. Slump's facial expressions are just plain priceless. A good show overall. Rock on Dr. Slump :buttrock:

I never watched the older anime but I did watch the new series that came on in like 1997 or 1998, and it was pretty damn funny. I've read a bunch of the comics. It's just not something that would apeal to Americans like Dragon Ball would.

Yeah, DB was way better. Then again, it was largely inspired by Journey to the West, whereas DBZ was not. I don't know what to say about it, except it was lacking... at best. I think the problem was that they kept tacking on to the story.

Look... ok there are the Dragon Quest games... =P The art is done by Toriyama... we all know that.

Then there is the Manga... based off the world of Dragon Quest, and it WAS NOT DONE by Toriyama.
