Hyper neo revision 2 power requirements

Hi all-

I've been poking through here for a while and it's been a great source of info. Everyone here seems really helpful, so I figured I'd ask a question that I couldn't seem to find the answer to via the search:

Does the Hyper neo revision 2 only need +5V @ 7 amps and +12V @ 1 amp?

I know that the r1 board had steeper power requirements (and wanted -5V to boot), and I wanted to make sure I read that right. The figures I'm using were from the scans of the japanese r2 manual that someone was good enough to post. I don't read japanese, but that one part seems straight forward enough- I just thought it was odd that the power requirements changed so much between the revisions.

Generally is it safer to get a slightly higher amperage rating than is required for these things (it needs 7a so give it 9a)?

Basically, I'm thinking of getting a Jameco psu with the following specs:
3.3V@8A, 5V@9A, 12V@1A, -12V@.2A found here or maybe one with similar specs but a slightly higher efficiency. I'm making a wild guess that higher efficiency is better.

Thanks!

Yep, that seems to be correct.

Rev 1 reqired the -5V for sound only, but you are right in that required an extra harness for the +5V and GND.

Higher amperage won't hurt the board but lower amperage can cause all kinds of weird things to happen. That power supply should do the trick nicely.

Cooly cool.

I was hoping that PSU would work. The price is definitely right, and it's small enough to fit into my consolizing plans.

Thanks

Are you gonna consolise a H64???

That's the plan. Other than the fact that there are only like 4 games this particular board can run, I'm not sure why it hasn't been done more on this forum. Plus, it would be pretty high on the "what the hell is that?" scale.

Falk is still currently operating on my H64 board. That PSU may not be suitable seeing as the whole H64 board is metal. Unless you shield it, when you turn it on you'll die.

I forgot that a lot of consolized systems add ports directly to the mobo- I wasn't planning on mounting it to the hyper frame, though. I'd like to build a shell around the whole unit. The PSU would sit on a shielded shelf inside the shell, or possibly mount to the bottom. I haven't figured out the exact layout I want yet, but it should be pretty neat. I don't want to make too many bold claims in the planning stages, so I'll leave it at that.

I like the "when you turn it on you'll die" part, though. :D

If somebody could possibly post some pics of the underside of the board then I'd be able to show you what I was thinking in terms of where I was going to site my internal PSU.

It would be interesting to consolize a Hyper neo, much more than a MVS IMHO.

Update:

I just got my Jameco order in today. To anyone else who's PSU shopping for a revision 2 hyper (because there are so many of you out there :glee: ), don't bother using the one I linked to above.

the 5v output fluctuated between 5.14 and 5.20 volts, but the real joke was the 12v output. It constantly spiked wildly from 4.8 to 10.something volts. I don't think it ever even peaked at 12v: it didn't provide enough juice to run an 80mm fan (power consumption rated at 12vdc @ 0.12 amps). :oh_no: It just sat there and jiggled a little bit. 12v @ 1 amp? Not a chance.

If this thing wasn't so cheap (about $7) I'd be tempted to get my money back. As it stands though, I've got a very ornate (and scratchy) paperweight.

Apparently you get what you pay for- oh well, it was worth a shot.

I guess I'm ordering a Happ psu tomorrow. I'll see if I can gut it from the casing to fit in the shell I'm planning (after I see if the board actually works).

2 Quick questions
1) There isn't a problem with wiring in stages, right? Like I mentioned above, I want to see if my board works, but I don't want to bother wiring up controllers and test switches and other crap just yet- I'm planning on hooking up all of the power lines and the RGB output and waiting on the rest- will running it like that to verify that it works cause any problems?

2) I poked around here a little, but I didn't find a clear cut answer to this (sorry if this has been asked before): How can I get a line-level (I guess that's what it's called) audio outputl from this board? From the Jamma loom, I think it has a bit of hokey amplification (like 5 watts or something) and assumes that you will hook up and power some crappy speakers directly from it. I plan on using RCA jacks to hook this up to my stereo, so I'd like the audio output to be unpowered (like the rca output jacks on the back of a DVD player). Is there an easy way to get unamped sound from a revision 2 hyper?

thanks,
