NEOGEO IS A 16 BIT SYSTEM BUT IT DOES EXCEED 16 BITS SUCH AS KOF2K1 , BECAUSE IT DEPENDS ALL IN the games and size for example kof2k1 800 megs and fatal fury 100 megs

Actually you should call Neo Geo a 16-bit console. It uses a 16-bit graphic processor to process the information, so there for it is 16-bit.

16-bits isn't related to meg count/cartridge size.

The best use for bit counts is to label various console generations.. 8 bit era, 16 bit era, etc. Although I think of Neo-Geo as a 24-bit, a step beyond the 2D the 16 bit consoles were capable of.

Garou, I wholeheartly agree with you. We shouldn't call the Neo a 16Bit system, it actually is a 9 1/2Bit-system because the carts are so big and the console is black.

Hehe, kewl.

This discussion is so retarded, but it's great.

Ppl, why not posting in the Neo-0 thread in General Discussion, it contains some more enlightment...

please dont confuse bits and bytes and meg counts.

Whoopie Doo

SNK incorrectly called it a 24 bit system, for obvious marketing reasons.

Sega did the same with the Saturn...two 32Bit Processors and they called it a 64Bit machine :)

lmao, he's from canada, maybe it's venturis's cousin?

system bit counts mean nothing, the 32x was shit, the jaguar (64bit) was shit, the superfx snes games looked better than the 3D on that system.

its a 16bit 68000? what does this have anything to do with the maximum addressable rom size?

I don't remember Sega ever calling the Saturn a 64bit machine. You are probably thinking of the Jaguar. they used that fuzzy logic of two 32bit processors=64 bit.

sega didn't call it 64bit.. they correctly called it 32bit..

two Hitachi SH-2 risc 32 bit cpu's,

it was a bitch to code for.

Sega was actually calling the Saturn 128 bit before it was released, I have an old EGM with the article, their tech support people were telling people by phone that asked that it was a 128 bit system.

They added all the cpu speeds up and got the 128 figure.

Bitage is meanlingless, because it's up to other features the system has, and if the developers even use them, sheer speed means nothing...

The Playstation 2 should prove that without a doubt, all the lies and hype Sony put out about it, 200 million polygons a second etc. etc., then why is it that games like DOA2 look better on Dreamcast?

I think of the Neo-Geo as a 16-bit system (while others think of it as 24) though the games certainly do not look 16-bit :D

There were some wierd experiements performed about tasking both CPUs together for mathematical operations. The results were...interesting.

The graphics data path from the cartridges is actually 32 bits wide. At least SNK wasn't pulling the stunt of calling it 32 bits like the Turbografx 16 which had a 16 bit graphics path and an 8 bit CPu, the 6502....

Are you saying that it's
possible for 32 bit games
to be made for neo geo?

The neo was maxed out years ago, games arent gonna look any better than they do now, KOF has looked the same ever since 96/97, they can only make the meg size bigger with more stages, music, characters etc.

Why do you think MOTWs only had like 12 characters? Cause its animation was so insane, they had to cut the character number down, cause the neo cant handle it.

Yes but it's not like everything
in the cartridge is on the screen
at one time. MOtW looks like a 32 bit
game to me, that's why I'm asking.
Does this mean that if a MOtW 2
comes out, that it couldn't have more
characters and more stages at the
same level of detail?, or could
developers just put more into
the cartridge?

why not to put a processor in the cart ?

yes - it's strange and more expensive but at least in MVS. the games could look better.

for me, game already look great and I love my neo mostly for his gameplay and big old-style joystick.

THE POINT IS THAT KOF GRAPHICS AND DETAIL WHICH ARE CONSINDERED GRAPHICS WILL CHANGE OVER THE YEARS. FOR INSTINCE KOF94 LOOK AT THE BACKROUND LOOKS OF THE CHARACTER - EWWWWWWWW- THEY DID'NT LOOK SO DETAILED BUT NOW U CAN SEE SO MUCH OF THE CHARACTER WHICH MAKE SU THINK THAT THE GAME IS IMPROVING IN GRAPHICS!!! BUT THE WHOLE CONCEPT IS THAT KOF 2002 IS GOING TO LOOK BETTER THAN ANY OTHER KOF BECAUSE OF ITS IMPROVMENTS OVER THE YEARS, LIKE HOW NEO GEO POCKET WENT FROM NO COLOR TO COLOR. AND NEO IS 24 BITS 16 + 8 = 24ANYHOW IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE SIZE OF THE CART WHICH MAKES JTHE GAME LOOK NICER!!!!!!! AND THATS THE BOTTOM LINE CAUSE GAROU SAID SO

Oh shit once again oldest arguement rears it's ugly head with a retard at the helm.

The SNK Neo*Geo is a 16 Bit Console system that also uses an 8-bit coprocessor which is why the system performs so well.

LIke it, Lump it, It's a 16 bit console and it's the oldest active one to this day.
