My dog died...

My dog apparently died sometime earlier this evening. It's been raining and I go out to get my two dogs and put them in the garage, where they sleep at night. One of them, Kelsey, was sitting on the back porch, but I couldn't find my other dog, Cookie. It's dark and rainy and she wasn't in her dog house. I look around and call, but can't see her. My sister comes out with a flashlight and sees her laying there. I can see from the porch that she's soaked and I didn't think she was breathing. My mom confirmed that she was, indeed, dead. She recently went to the vet and got four or five shots, so that's the only thing I can think of that could have killed her. She had been acting a little funny the last few days, walking slowly and sleeping an unusual amount. I thought that was just because the vet had to fix an ingrown toenail, so it was sore.

Well, we had to bury her in a spot in the front yard so that my other dog wouldn't try to dig up her body. She's likely been dead at least a few hours as she was soaked (it's only been raining here since about 5 P.M. EST) and she was very stiff (i.e. - rigor mortis) when we found her. I don't think my other dog even knows as she was just on the porch and possibly couldn't smell her because of the rain and my little sister has been crying nonstop for the past hour. This really, really sucks.

:crying:

Sorry to hear that, man :crying: . My dog is gettin' up there in the years, and I'm gettin' kinda worried that I'll be gettin' the call from my parents sometime soon (he lives back home).

Really sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is like losing a part of the family, and it's even worse when you don't know when and why it happens.

Best of luck to your family, and be there for your little sis.

Wow, that's terrible. My dod is my best friend so I can definitely feel for you. Sometimes dogs can have allergic reactions to their shots. I asked my vet b/c my dog had trouble the last couple times. He acted like I was nuts and he'd never heard of it. Well, it's relatively easy to research on the web so we won't be going back to him.

We did end up doing the shots per usual and she had all kinds of trouble.

I hope all works out ok. It will be difficult. My thoughts are with you.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. :(
My dog is 10 years old now and I'm really starting to dread the day he dies.

Keep your chin up bro.

I've had a lot of pets pass on man...it's never easy to lose a friend.
Take it easy and just try to remember the fun you had with your dog.

My condolences dude, my friend's cat just died (R.I.P. THE GOOD CAT) and he was quite bummed by it. My cat is quite old as well. Losing pets is awful, and seemingly hurts as much as a human relative dying. Don't feel bad getting a new pet, and don't think of it as "replacing" the deceased. You will be surprised how quickly a new pet grows on you.

Sorry to hear about your loss. When I was growing up we had a collie, and she died a week or two after getting some shots as well (she was over 10 years old, but still the shots did her in I think).

I've been doing some research and it seems that the vaccinations animals received can often make them sick. Everyone should be aware that ESPECIALLY IN OLDER ANIMALS, you should think very carefully before allowing the vet to give them shots. There are plenty of cases where the animal declined and died not long after receiving certain shots, and that goes for either dogs or cats.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. The thing is, she wasn't even old. She was only around six years old and I certainly wasn't expecting her to die anytime soon. It's just really bizarre.
