Samurai 7 (based on the Seven Samurai) Takes the same plot (basically) and sets it in a post apoctalyptic future. There are mech like robots that are rendered in CG, Bandits have armed their body with machine parts (some Samurai as well). 26? episodes are planned, anime is not yet licensed. First two episodes have been subbed and can be downloaded using bittorrent (www.downloadanime.org)

It isn't a bad show, but it isn't great (from what I've seen). Definitely for fans of the movie (if you haven't seen the movie I say WTF. Go buy the Critereon DVD, pricey but worth it. And before you complain when you can't find a widescreen edition, there is no widescreen version. The movie was shot in TV aspect ratio). If you haven't seen the movie, you may enjoy the anime. I'm not making any guarantees. I'll give it a couple more episodes before I decide to stop watching it.

This is probably done in the same manner as Kaze no Yojimbo, which has Kurosawa's name on it because it uses the Yojimbo character. I have the first 2 discs, though I haven't gotten a chance to watch them yet.

Kaze no Yojimbo doesn't seem to be doing poorly, so I'd expect someone, likely Bandai if they haven't gotten it already, to license Samurai 7.

Why?

Just leave the movie alone, its the pinnacle in cinematic storytelling. Changing the story into something other than what it already is completely destroys what the movie is about.

Sounds interesting. I'm downloading the first two episodes now. I haven't seen the original movie, but, hey, I'll give it a try.

BTW, I finally watched Samurai Champloo after you posted a thread about it. It rocks. :buttrock:

Naruto is DBZ with ninjas :P

What's Champloo? Is it the thing that's being produced by Cowboy B's makers? Or is that S7?

Yeah, it's being made by Shinichiro Watanabe. It's basically feudal Japan with a hip-hop theme. I'm not into hip-hop myself, but it's still a really cool series so far. It's kind of like how Cowboy Bebop has a jazz theme.
