Since I recently moved I managed to dig up some old PC games. Most look terrible by today's standards but some actually still look and play fairly well.
So far I managed to find two that I could still get to work, Fallout 2 and Throne of Darkness. Everybody remembers the original fallout and fallout2 is more, still addicting. Throne of Darkness(ToD) one of the Diablo clones is still as fun as I remember. Controlling 4 characters at once instead of just one can get frantic at times but for the most part it's loads of fun. I picked up another copy on ebay for about $4 sealed. Still good stuff. Speaking of diablo, I want to give it another go but I gotta find the CD case with the serial on it.
Anyway, anybody else know of any great old PC titles?

Find "ScummVM" and then play all of your old Lucasfilm adventure games. ;)

Crusader: No Remorse, Epic Pinball, Abuse are still fun. :) Then again, I still occasionally play "Alley Cat" in DosBox. ;)

I remember Crusader! It took me forever to get my weak PC to finally run it in college but it was great when it did. I think I stole it from my roommate who stole it from the Office Depot where he worked. ;)

Revenant, (Eidos) : incredibly nice looking and great playing 3/4 view game. Use it with a std PC gamepad, as it requires plenty of fighting and special moves. Its very action oriented, plays like something you'd find on Saturn or PS1. if you like Action RPG's, you MUST MUST MUST buy this game. I warn you however, retail ships version 1.0. DO NOT install any update as it will add to the small amount of bugs present in the code, but will raise the difficulty 2fold.

Treadmarks: Plays like a playstation 1 game. Think twisted metal, but on a LAN. Great game can be played with deathmatch in mind or races/kill opponents. Very fun!

Steel Beasts: This is a marvel at what a single programmer can do. The most accurate M1A2 and Leopard tank simulator out there. For a while, our friends at West Point used this for training. It was avail on retail years back. Very playable with a keyboard/moust but a flightstick is optimal. If you are a tankhead, you must find this game. It looks like ass, has ONLY software rendering but damn it will own you. Has quite a cult following on teh forumz for it. Online play was excellent for its time, not sure what's up with it now.

All of the above. Id also like to add Heroes of might and magic II and III. The fourth installment pretty much sucked. Im probably the only person in the world who thought it was a shame when 3DO went out of buisiness. No HOMM 5. :crying:

Atomic Bomberman! Nothing like getting a bunch of friends and controllers together and blowing people apart. This game is like $5 new whereever I've seen it. And the level editor (hidden but the help files tell you how to get to it) gives it long-lasting replayability.

Also:
Earthworm Jim (the CD rom version has a nice soundtrack)
Operation Carnage (like Smash TV in space, kinda (I had trouble getting sound with this))
Jazz Jackrabbit (classic)
Commander Keen (any, #1, #4 or even that one with the vegetables, they're all awesome)
Epic Pinball (Awesome pinball game with creative levels)
Lemmings (and the sequels, man where DID I put that CD of it...)
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (purely DOS but nice CD soundtrack... too bad I can't get sfx or joystick support)
NBA Live '98 (my brother and I played this to death around 1997-1999 and we had a lot of fun with it, but it may have not aged well... I should dust it off)
NFL Blitz 2000 (not really "old" (more like "not current" but it's fun, very fun)
Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Great port!)
Fatal Fury 3 and Samurai Shodown 2 (they'll run on nearly any pc, NICE CD soundtracks)
Monster Truck Madness 2 (As strange as this game sounds, you should really try it out. Huge levels to offroad in and different weather conditions and secret paths... I love this game)

There's probably more I'm leaving out, I may reply with more later.

You should be able to get all of these for a small price. At outpost.com they have a dual-pack of FF3 and SS2 for $5 plus shipping, for a nice start...

Edit: Oh what was that Apogee game with the monsters called, either Monster Bash or Monster Mash, it's really fun.
Shadows of the Empire is great fun.
Rebel Assault 2 is a great FMV game.

Edit2:
The Microsoft Arcade packs.
Alien Force (Aforce).
Doom!

Metal Fatigue. An underrated RTS. Very advanced for it's time. There's the standard 3 teams but the games greatest feature was the ability to build massive combots and watching them battle. You also had to control 3 playing fields at once - orbit, surface, underground.

Oh for heavens sake, how could i forget One Must Fall? The only fighter i ever got really good at. It was always about one more fight to get more upgrades for my robot.

I just love these nostalgia threads. :)
