Another question - CD vs. AES manuals.

Well, I did a little searching before asking, at least...

Are the manuals for CD games generally the same as the AES counterparts?

Same layout? Same images/comics/artwork? I'm especially interested when it comes to newer games.

There are some differences. The CD manuals include descriptions of buttons layouts for the game pad, not for the old/new style sticks. What's more, AES manuals contain infos about how to handle the console and cart, as well as the mem card (which is built-in into the CD, so there's just a general info about game saves in CD manuals).

If the CD version features additional modes (e. g. Neo Turf Masters CD) the manual will cover this, too.

Some of the earlier games have manuals which are twice as big as the standard CD booklet sized ones, while their CD counterparts always come in the normal size (except for KoF96 collection and the AoF3 CD boxed lim. ed.).

The artwork and the layout of the move charts/game rules should be the same in both versions.

Not always: Take Savage Reign US for example

--> CD version manual features Super Moves
--> AES version manual does not feature Super Moves

I`m sure there are more differences but I don`t own many CDs to check.

Interesting. I don't own SR on cart, only on CD. Overall it seems that Neo CD manuals are a bit more "casual" than their AES counterparts.

Hmm, I guess my CD vs cart reference table will never be finished...

Well, that's an advantage, then.

I've just been considering buying a few carts that didn't have manuals (to save money) and then getting the CD versions to replace it. I just don't wanna miss out on some of the goofy comics they put in or a lot of artwork or anything...

Just a followup - can most CD games be played in a CD player?

Thanks for the help, guys.

Yep!

Ah, Neo CDs... you get great games, the sound tracks, and cool cover and manual artwork for one price...

Sweet deal - I might just buy a few games for their remixed soundtracks.
