It's a comon issue amongst PC peripherals.

Since I've got my ball-less Logitech mouse, I never had anymore troubles of that nature. Mine's still doing well for 3 full years now and counting.

What about yours ?

I had an Intellimouse Explorer for about 2.5 years until the left button started double-clicking when I only clicked once. I have since moved to:

Which has been working just fine. Fits into my hand really well too.

I have the same Logitech mouse and have had no problems with it at all. I do like that mouse that Buro posted though. :spock:

I've just got a regular microsoft optical mouse - it has been working flawlessly for the past couple of years or so. Ball mice were a pain in the ass - I'm glad they're basically history.

WTF is that thang?
These next-generation mice were specially designed by Masamune Shiro (sometimes spelled Shirow), creator of the popular Ghost in the Shell saga. Available in dark silver and white highlighted versions, these limited edition mice come bundled with an interview insert (see photos below) in which Masamune talks about his design philosophies and tricks of the trade (English translation of interview provided exclusively by Shinza.com). These are limited edition models, and once they are gone... they're gone for good!
I have the white model in particular.

I've broken more PC peripherals than I can count. I end up spilling something on them and they stop working. I've been through two or three keyboards since last summer. Mouses, however, I usually can avoid damaging for a long time. I've had a $15 Logitech optical mouse for at least a little over a year, now.

If I don't break my mouse or keyboard, I'll usually get tired of it after a while and go out and buy something a little swankier.

I'm using the "MS Intellimouse" that came with my PC about 3 or 4 years ago, and it hasn't given me any problems yet.

I still prefer ball mice over optical, simply because I like the more visceral feel of it. I play a lot of FPS, and I realize that optical mice have a LOT more precision, but I just like the feel of ball mice on the pad. Meh.

What do you keep your monitor on, then? Do you have Web TV or something?

I have this is 3 colors: red, blue, green. Currently using the blue one seen above. Nice as it matches the blue lights on my laptop.

I had a MS Wheel mouse but it broke when I moved a few years ago.

Now I just use the built-in "eraser" mouse in the middle of my laptop keyboard. My Dell has both a motion-sensor mouse and an eraser, but I can't stand the motion-sensor: its too slow and limited in movement. I'm amazed at how versitle the eraser mouse is.

Not like a stand-alone mouse, but a worthy non-gaming mouse.

I have the same Apple Optical Mouse that came with my machine on November 2002.
I kept saying I would buy the Logitech or Microsoft three-button scroll optical, but got used to my current setup and stuck with it.

Interesting topic, since I remember when my family first got our computer, my parents always bought the shittiest peripherals. When I got older and standard doing the PC work, they had me buy everything.
Since I bought my Mac, they have reverted and buy shitty peripherals again (cheap no-name stuff that always seems to stick and break down.)
Gives me a good reason to tease them.

I have the IntelliMouse Trackball, PS/2 version on the main computer. My Grandma had it for a while before I did (two years at least) and since that I've had it for at least three years. Sometimes it gets weird in its movements and that's when I have to open up the ball area and clean off all the black gunk that builds up on the little rubber "rollers" that the ball touches (doesn't happen more than once a year).

On my mom's computer (which my brother and I use sometimes (it's in the room with the cabinet)) we have the Logitech Merble Mouse USB. I think it's optical but I'm not sure. It's been around for about a year and a half.

Downstairs on the laptop (Thinkpad 600) there's a normal Eraser Head. It needs a new "cap" (all the traction deelies are worn off) and sometimes it "drifts" (a common problem, so I've heard). It gets the job done though.

Yeah, mine drifts occasionaly. I've learned to just let it drift as far as it wants to and it'll stop on its own. Fortunately the traction's remained solid over two years of continuous use.

Uhh, mine is grey, with a little ball inside it. It probably needs cleaned.

Geez, that sentence could sound really wierd if I wasn't talking about a mouse.
