I can see why GC is not doing so well (not a flame thread)

Ok, I just bought a GC a few days ago and I love it so far (planning on modding it for a few jpn games) and I bought Sonic Collections just to relive that. The problem I think tons of the games are only rehashes + sequals and what I really found dumb was nintendo only sells the component cable on their website and they took out the digital a/v input in the newer consoles because they say less than 1% of people use it? I highly doubt that...just had to get that off my chest heh.

I doubt that. Most people use RF and S-Vid, because, well, you know, almost every TV has those.

Sonic MegaCollection sucks though. It has more games than Sonic Jam, but compared to the extras and presentation, it sucks alot of ass.

Nintendo hasnt really released any compilations themselves other than the Zelda disc..... and that thing was free.

(and every console got the Namco and Midway collections.)

Well I could not live without Super Monkey Ball, for one. Without that game, I wouldn't be here today. That game revived the need in me for arcade-simplicity and skill-based games. In my search for more such games, I found the Neo-Geo. I also think F-Zero GX is one of the best racers ever. Pikmin and Wario World are also amazing games, though both could use a little more length. So I'm eagerly awaiting Pikmin 2. There's this new Tales game coming to the system, which is a pretty damn good RPG series. The Ikaruga score ranking rocked my world as well... THE PROBLEM is that not many gamers are LIKE ME! lol. So yeah, most gamers aren't fully appreciating the cool arcade games. But I thought Nintendo was doing okay monetarily....! As far as I knew, Nintendo themselves were one of the most profitable companies.... Has this changed at all?

Reason the Gamecube isn't doing so well = People are fucking brainless.

lack of 3rd party support, and not enough consistency (not in quality, but in release schedules) with 1st party releases.

2 reason's Cube isn't doing well

1.Well made machine so it lasts long (not like that pile of shit called PS2)
2.People would rather play crappy bloody games like GTA then good ones like Viewtiful Joe (which by the way is probably going to suck on PS2)

Just like what Buro said. the GC is not meant to be for the mainstream. I'm pretty sure that 75% of those who bought a PS2 know nothing about videogames. they just buy it, play it for some time and throw it away. Also consider the ability to play boots on PS2. This may not be a serious issue in the US, but have a look at few Asian or middle-eastern countires. almost every house here has at least one or two modded PS2's somewhere in it, and with every 2 or 3 price drops people buy a new one.

I still think that the GC is doing well, sales wise that is. it's not that bad actually.

as for it's line up, it has enough titles to guarantee a purchase, but like Buro said, people are ignorant and blind so that they "don't" wanna try or (at least) see them.

hell, would you skip a game like Zelda Wind Waker, just because there was another Zelda game on N64, or because it doesn't have teh "0h l\/ly 90d 73h f145hy gr4f3x!!!!1" .......?

sorry, but can you explain why "do you think" VJ will suck on PS2 ?

just picking few out of my mind:

Animal Crossing, Eternal Darkness, Wario Ware inc., Zelda WW, Resident Evil 0, Super Monkey Ball, Zelda Four Swords, Viewtiful Joe, Wario World (not that good, but not so boring as many other platformers out there).

also there few titles that I haven't tried yet, or didn't like: Metroid Prime, Pikimin, Star Wars: RS. Sonic DX and Super Smash Brothers.

not to mention that Resident Evil Rebirth is different enough to empress/satisfy those who already played it, and that MGS TT is so fuckin' cool because the original was classic game that you would still enjoy even if you had beaten it 1000 times before. can we say best game ever? well, still can't ditch CV SotN from the top of my "best games of all time" list, but it defenetly takes the second spot. and let me add Skies of Arcadia to the list.

uh and don't forget to look forward to the upcoming titles such as the new Zelda, RE4 and Viewtiful Joe 2.

because almost every 2d game sucks ass on PS2. Play Marvel vs Capcom 2 on dreamcast then PS2 you'll see what I mean.

All the consoles are mostly sequels, rehashes, or clones now, and GC probavbly has a much better proportion of sequal/rehash/clone - original games than PS2.

Original games (that are worth playing):

And why bother to mod your system when you can get a freeloader at Gamestop for 1.99$?

If the GBA SP selection of games was on the GC, it would no doubt be on top. But as it stands it has a poor selection of games and if you're favourite genres are fighters and RPGs then it's far from your required system. It also seems to be out-performed in other genres by it's competitors.

Clearly if you want Nintendo games then buy the only system which supply's them. I don't see how the most hardcore of gamers will be satisfied with a GC alone.

I hate that mentality, and every kid my age (and really all other age-groups as well) uses that as an excuse to make it sound like it's the "cool," trendy" thing to own a Playstation 2. I don't get it. If you even mention that you own anything that's not a Playstation 2, from the current era that we live in or another one, they proceed to fight with you even if you were just trying to have a normal conversation. Their argument is always about the "graphix!" Yet I prove to them that GameCube and X-Box are superior hardware-wise (games are opinion-based, but there's a limit on that too), but it doesn't matter. One kid actually believed that the Playstation 2 was "magical" and the reason why games don't look as good on it as they do on Dreamcast (this was a couple years back) was because it was so powerful that developers just couldn't handle the insane amounts of power it could output at once! This however, did not matter, since even though the games didn't "look" as good, they still have "better graphix0rz!" To this day I don't get it, I just don't get it.

A couple months ago I mentioned Dreamcast to not_sonic when we were talking about I don't know what. Immediately some ass-hat behind us (this was in school) chimed in and ranted about how much Dreamcast sucks. This would happen everytime the word "Dreamcast" came into play in a conversation and he overheard it. It's like these people have a fucking radar and whenever they hear the word "Dreamcast," (it's not as bad as GameCube or X-Box, but they're up there to on the hatred chart) they take it offensively and start bitching at you. It's like liberals and President George W. Bush. I mean seriously, this guy wasn't even in on the conversation, just stay the fuck away if you don't like what we're talking about.

It's almost like a poor attempt at making a current, mainstream system into a "cult" system if you look at it from the perspective that I've been seeing it at, which is pretty pathetic. However, this does not seem to be far from the truth, really... Like I said before, all the "cool," "trendy" kids have Playstation 2's and maybe their little brother/sister owns a GameCube since they're younger than 7 years old. It's like a fad that never dies... Even Pokemon died, geeze.

Another interesting tidbit that I'd like to point out is that most of the Sony fan-base consists of the most gullibe, misinformed shit-heads that I've ever had the misfortune to be in a conversation with. You can tell them anything and they'll believe it:

I could go on with that conversation, but I think you get the idea. But to continue with how mis-informed people are, you can take my Dad's store for example. He works in a camera store and he has trouble with people not buying certain products for stupid reasons. Someone one might want a camera with a certain feature. He has a camera with that feature, but they insist that he sells them the Sony version of the camera which either doesn't exist, or costs more and does less. The customer will then refuse to buy the Samsung version of the camera which is more cost efficient and has more features/is of a higher quality. The customer will then either purchase the Sony product or nothing at all if a Sony version doesn't exist... or does it exist? Supposedly they just saw an ad in the newspaper for a Sony camera that some store is clearly selling even though it's not due out until 2005.

Moving back to the Playstation 2 topic, let's not forget that all these people own their PS2's for is Gran Theft Auto 3/Vice City and Grand Turismo 3, nothing else (there's the occasional Final Fantasy X/X-2). What I don't understand is, is why everyone always raves about how great the "graphix0rz" are in the GTA series. GTA is probably the worst looking game on the Playstation 2... And the game is so shitty that it's practically a fact that it sucks (sorry, I had to say that, maybe the element that I'm surrounded by everyday in school is rubbing off on me, but with a different opinion). It's awesome for comedy though, running around blowing shit up and adding narration to it is definitely great (with other people that is).

Sorry I went off on a rant there, I know this has been re-iterated a thousand times over, but the truth is people just plain suck at life, facts, and purchases.

I really believe that not only is this mentality the cause of shitty sales for Nintendo, but the cause of a lot of problems in this world. I don't know about the rest of the world, but from what I've seen with the morons around me, they'll become biased to a particular company (usually Sony) and then claim that their producs are the best, so they only buy camcorders, cameras, CD players, etc., that are Sony products, and Sony products only, and in the case of Sony, there products mysteriously stop working after 6 months, which happened to a friend of mine when she got her Sony CD player... She wasn't biased though, the CD player just happened to be made by Sony... It's this biased and misinformed society that we live in that causes the downfall of many products/companies/businesses these days.

Disclaimer: I'm using Sony as the company that people are biased towards since it seems to be the number one company for people to cling to, not because of my hatred for Sony... that I don't have... . Keep in mind that this happens with all companies and that Sony fans aren't the only people to blame.

And remember, "kiddy" games suck and PS2 0wnz j00 all fo' fr33!

The "graphix mean everything" mentality I don't understand either. I've actually had people (mainly Playstation 2 owners) tell me that "graphix" are all matters/impresses wthem with games. If that's the case, why are they wasting their time playing video games and not just watching tech demos/CG movies instead?

I've only scratched the surface, but I'm done for today.

Ah, btw... The PS2 can't do hardware cell shading, it's software buddy. Wich means it takes much more CPU load.

It's a great machine (and I have enjoyed plenty of the games), but it doesn't have the selection of PS2 and the seemingly endless modifications you can do to the X-Box.

One reason I felt the cube is not doing too well as of now, look at its support pulling out, from Silicion Knights, Rare, Sega Sports, etc.

Say what happened to Konami's support to Cube btw? Now that's a mystery...


I think the one thing cube did too much, was ports and remakes. Not saying anything is wrong with that, but I was disappointed in the Sonic Mega Collection too, I felt Sonic Jam was so much better....in my opinion, this Cube title needed Sonic CD added....screw Flicky, Ristar, and that mindless Sphere Game. Just throw in Sonic CD and we'll be all happy. Cuz just showing us the ending and intro to Sonic CD was a pisser..I wanted to play it on Cube.

Resident Evil series, I don't know about you guys but I felt Resident Evil 2 needed a remake badly. I dunno why Capcom rushed this out along with Code Veronica and RE3. RE4 I could have waited for honestly, I'm in no real rush.

Now seeing they have taken out the Composition Video feature sucks ass...but if removing a part like that, doesn't that decrease the price of it a tad? (Kinda like how PS1 did that to reduce cost back in 97')

Viewtiful Joe, Animal Crossing, Metriod Prime, Mario Kart Double Dash, Resident Evil Zero and Rebirth, MGS TT, Zelda OoT/Master Quest, Zelda Collector's Disk are the only reasons why I would have a Cube hanging around.

But Viewtiful Joe on PS2? Too Early to tell, but if they can work the image processor similar to Devil May Cry 1, I think it may pull it off...

Yet after playing Resident Evil Outbreak on PS2...and seeing how many damn times the game has to load in order to walk through a door and all is insane...I think I got a little frustrated with that.
Because on GameCube you never saw that on the remakes of RE1 or Zero.

So with that in mind, I think that will be Viewtiful Joe's weakness on PS2.

On another note, fighting fans not too happy with Cube and I can understand why, but I think the entire world learned it's lesson with CVS2 EO on Cube...the controls are not meant for fighters...anyone can't stress that enough.

Hate to say it, but Cube is being supported by Nintendo alone, because all the titles I've mentioned are first party...I hate to see Nintendo like this again...I just hope that whatever is in store for the future with this project "Revolution" could pull Nintendo back into the public

I just wanted to proclaim my support for the ole Cube. The only REAL problem I see with the cube is that it doesn't have a large enough selection of good games. However, in terms of great games, I believe it easily outshines both the X-box and the PS2 (maybe both of them combined).

To me, the number of great games is much more important, since I simply cannot play every single above-average game that comes down the pike. And the "Gamecube is only for kids" argument is just total bullshit. In fact, I'd say that most Gamecube owners are probably more mature than their X-box/PS2 counterparts. GC owners are intelligent enough to realize that it's gameplay that's important, while rabid X-box/PS2 fanboys seem to be out to prove to the world how much of an adult they are by their choice of game system. "But dude, look how much gore and sex my system's games have .... "

That being said, I am liking the direction that the X-box is taking - it's definitely my second favorite system now. They seem to be much more willing to cater to a broader audience of gamers - rather than just allow games which promote their image. I gotta tip my hat to the X-box crew for that.

xbox gives me at least 2 games a month i want as does the ps2. GC doesnt. so i buy like 5 or 6 games a year which doesnt keep me interested. its a shame really coz zelda ww and mario sunshine were two of the last couple of years best games.

What? Red Dead Revolver?

I mean honestly, I can see 2 games a month for PS2, but I have trouble coming up with two games that are decent (not necessarily my taste) over the last 6 months.

MEanwhile, I gotta make LoZ:4S and Mega Man Ann. Col. on one paycheck. Hrm...

The only one I would call valid here is Sega Sports (and honestly sports games haven't sold as well as other titles on Cube, which I'm personally not upset about except that it hurts their mainstream lineup)

Rare is totally invalid, having been bought my M$. SK raises eyebrows, but doesn't add up. SK used Nintendo to help get a full fucking TWO GAMES out. Then as soon as they have a hit for one, and money they cash in their chips. Weird behavior, especially for a company that doesn't have its next game on the table (last I heard Too Human was canned...you heard me). Either way, SK would not have a game ready until Revolution based on their game frequency...

Sad about the Digital Audio out. But hey, Revolution will be backwardly compatible, and supposedly will have VGA support out of the box (here's hoping that claim wasn't just hot air).

I honestly think thier 3rd party support was hurt somewhat by Miyamoto continuing to work on 3rd party relations. That was an extremely stupid move, and had gone on too long. Iwata however should be able to perform better on that I would expect.

Uh, Konami has alot of games on gamecube.

They make more than Castlevania and DDR you know.

Honestly, I prefer PS2's style of online to XBox's. I see no reason I should pay any fee for most of LIVE's games, and on PS2 you don't have to. If XBox LIVE covered a bunch of MMO's, sure, but for everyone screaming for EA LIVE support, the PS2 players supposedly get all this for free.

But on Nintendo, I definitely wish Nintendo would support thier Network Adaptor more. Mario Kart Online and Animal Crossing online would blow all of XBL out of the water, and would hardly cost anything to work on.

The XBOX Live system just works really well, no 56kers that lag the hell out of everyone and the voice chat supported all the way is cool too. Not to mention gamertags are the same and invites over MSN Messanger are just really cool.

But the main reason I like XBOX a lot is how I mentioned all the racing games in my previous post. Plenty of good ones, but that's just what gets me.
