I got a Korean Arcade cabinet ::for free:: today but it seems to have a monitor problem ,

it has a horrid discoloration in 2 areas of the monitor similar to when you put a magnet up to a TV screen . I cant seem to find a degauss button on the cab ans i have messed with the knobs to no avail .

what should I do in this situation ? would a caps kit fix the problem ? a deguassing rod ? what are my options here ...is the monitor totally fried ?

any help would be great .

Turn the game a different direction for starters to see if it changes. There could be some interference in that spot. The other thing I would recommend is to manually deqauss the monitor. There are several cheap ways to do this. Do a google search in the newsgroup rec.games.video.arcade.collecting. Lots of good info there to be found.

I used a soldering gun (not an iron, but a a gun) to degauss a monitor. You simply plug it in and press and hold the trigger while slowly moving over the monitor in a circular motion, getting farther away with each pass. It worked on one of my games but not on another. Good luck!
