good ass action movie, definetly tops pitch black, special effects amazing, i dont think anyone but vin diesel could pull off this character, not one cheesy line from him in the whole movie, no one was ever laughing at the serious dialogue like you find in some flicks, ending leaves a door open for sequels, go see it...

also saw the new preview for AvP, doesn't look nearly as bad as i thought, predators still seem to be people in suits for the most part. and at least the fucking humans have some machine guns, even if it's not marines....

Have you seen Van Helsing? If so, how would you compare the two?

I've seen neither, that's why I'm asking. And I'm a cheap bastard and only want to pay for one.

Supposedly, there's an hour of film that was cut from this movie and it will be thrown in later this year because the studio wanted a popcorn action flick and not a serious multi-layered, plot driven flick.

The extra hour is supposed to be REALLY good, also.

didnt see it.

pitch black is really a different movie though i must say, it's more thriller, i'd almost say a bit on the B space horror tip, riddick is pure big budget action. pitch black did have a much better story though, lots of shit in this movie is not explained, but that could be done in sequels.

Holy jesus thats fucking great news. I really felt the movie was a bit jerky with the pace and definitely choppy on the plot.

That is so sad but so good to know anyway. I really hate popcorn flicks too but adore good, solid plot/story/character built movies.

This is why I think Armageddon sucks ass but Mission to Mars, Deep Impact, and Contact are good movies.

As a fan of Pitch Black, I look forward to seeing CoR.

@ Buro District: Would you be offended if I said that your MSX baby avatar is the coolest shit i've seen all day? Dare I say, "Awwwwwwww"? Good one!

I really wanted to like it, but couldn't. The whole "reluctant hero/badass-with-a-heart-of-gold" thing was pushed so far it was pure cheese. And he spends nearly the entire movie with his goggles off in well-lit situations, and wears them while lurking around the dark corners of a prison? WTF?

The game is way better than the movie. By a mile. First KOTOR, now this...

Also, those CGI dogs were lame as hell.

Just imagine if they had developed multi-player

maybe a co-op play like Halo :buttrock:

Thats why I really hated the ending. Give me a fucking break. I can understand having some feelings for Jack, I suppose Riddick didn't want the life he's lived for her, but he failed to protect her like he promised to Imam.

But honestly, his pouty face (and googles off in a well lit chamber, wtf?) when she dies, and then being in command of the whole Necromonger army? Please. I was half expecting to see the final shot being the Necros ships taking off and him standing on the surface, having rejected the position.

But then again, it is David Twohy's and Vin Diesel's character, so I guess they can add as many sides to him as they want.

About 3/4 of the way through the movie, I was thinking to myself "There is no way they'll finish up this storyline in the amount of time they have left." But they did. I know I was supposed to dislike the main villain, but I really didn't care. Was the one guy commiting suicide supposed to be a sad moment? I didn't give a shit, I had no idea who he was.

The whole movie seemed to be large complicated machinery opening, closing, or flying, and then Riddick would kill someone.

That said, the movie was pretty enjoyable. I can't say I disliked it.

Van Helsing sucked ass. Go see Chronicles of Riddick. Definitely worth the money, whereas Van Helsing is hardly worth renting.

I sure hope that's true. I'd love more plot development. Judy Dench's character and that other Furian who killed himself seemed like they were missing something--like their roles in the story were originally supposed to be larger, and consequently their character development suffered.

you can already tell from the trailer and commercials that they cut a lot of shit out of the theatrical release, such as riddick's shockwave attack (which also shows up in the game).

in either case, i thought the movie was great (although i'm really looking forward to the uncut version). i really liked how it wasn't just "world gets invaded, riddick is called upon, he fights." a lot of it was really about his decision to fight, thus allowing the movie to follow him around instead of just focusing on the war torn planet the whole time.

the dvd should have about an hour of cut out footage, i think the original film had a 3 hour run time, they cut it down to 2. judi denchs character had NO development at all, and you never saw the underverse, or even knew why the fuck they were looking for it, still good. and yeah the cg dogs looked like they belong in a PS2 game. the ending reminded me of the conan ending when he's sitting on his thrown, and they say "that's another story".

Holy Shit! For once I agree with DashK.

I immeadatly thought of the ending of fuckin' Conan.

I just wanna go on the record as saying the ending was lame as shit and super predictable.

lol, I felt it was super UNpredictable. I mean seriously, they spend all this time in Pitch Black and Butcher Bay building up the "lone wolf" mantra of the Riddick character, and at the end he's suddenly in charge of an entire army.
