Fawlty Tower is indeed great.

British(?) TV shows from the late seventies(?) and early eighties.

When I saw the thread title, I imagined the Young Ones living in Faulty Towers with Clease. That would be an interesting show, although the young ones would have to be getting on in age by now.

I have the entire Faulty Towers collection on VHS, got it for $20 on Ebay

as for "The Young Ones" which is the shit, was later shown onMTV during the middle of the 80's in the USA. Found a couple of reruns on Comedy Central way back in 98', they use to show them around 2 or 3 in the morning.

Then I noticed that BBC America (for those who have Direct TV) sometimes show them as well.

Anyways, I need to find that as well, the Young Ones were so damn funny. Also notice that the character who played "Rick" starred in a comedy called"Drop Dead Fred"...that was the last time I ever saw him...I really wish I knew what happened to the rest of the cast...which reminds me...Mike, the rich guy who was always playing golf. Later got a role on Absolutely Fabulous as the ex-husband of the main character who is played by Jennifer Saunders.

But to sum it up, I remember the characters quite well.

Rick- Snotty, stuck up,and Mr. Know-It-All (remember the episode where they went on a game show and Vivian wrote "DICK"as his name?)

Vivian- The euro-trash punk rocker, who would drink just about anything, while destroying walls in their apartment

Mike- Rich, snobby, and self-centered. Was the brains of the operation, but rarely showed up.

Nell- Maniac-Depressive hippy, who didnt believe in violence, had alot of suicidal tendencies, and Vivian always loved insulting the hell out of him.

There was a 5th member as well, I cant remember his name, he played the land lord, but he was so damn annoying.

I still love the episode when Motor Head makes a music-guest appearence and they play their classic "THe Ace of Spades"

Dark Andy, do yourself a favour and watch the best British sitcom of all time.
http://www.fawltysite.net/
The complete series is out on DVD and VHS, and a few satellite stations show it, or at least used to show it, at bizarre hours.

Black Adder is tied for me with Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf is pretty funny as well.
Never seen Young Ones (I know, I know) and MPFC doesn't count because it isn't a sitcom.
MPFC is the funniest show in the history of television, though, and if you don't agree, you are nothing more than a Gumby or a candidate for Upper Class Twit of the Year. :mr_t:

In a thread like this I cannot hold myself back from mentioning the following: KIDS IN THE HALL. While Fawlty Towers is indeed a hilarious classic, I must give the Canadians credit in this category. Criticize if you must, I know it's a sketch show, but KITH just owns foreign comedy shows in general.

Kids in the Hall isn't foreign. :p

I'm staying away from praising anything that's not British. We'll all be here for days if this becomes a best comedy series ever thread.
Who wants to start the best comedy series ever thread? :mr_t:

Don't mention the war:D

BTW, the cast of Kids in the hall were all Canadian homosexuals, though at the time i did find the squish your head thing childishly amusing.

"This, basil. this, basil's wife. this, smack on head."
I love fawlty towers. pure genius.
Black Adder is brilliant, as is Red Dwarf. Its hard to choose one from them.

I also submit "the thin blue line" to the list of great britcoms (another rowan atkinson show). Very good as well.

Has anyone seen "Spaced"? another very good, but nearly impossible to get in the US. It was never broadcast anywhere in the US, and as far as i know is only availble in PAL format. Great series though. My sister got them on PAL DVD, and i watched em on my laptop.
