OK so this isnt going to breth awsome results being so specific, but.....

Super Monaco GP Megadrive, great game, arcade version probably never to be emulated, whatever, i digress.....I need Sennas GP for the awsome music, but for now....

As we know it only can use the 3 button standard, but the gear change knaws my ass......basically i want you to tell me what controller type you use, i have this problem where i accidentally change gears when cornering (up/down), you have to use manual transmission for best results, even on automiatic, the gears are still active, need help.

WTF is a MegaDrive?

(hah, just kidding).

I have it for Genesis, its one of my favorites. I bought it back in the day and I even played it to completion again last summer (boy, it does have a slightly steep learning curve though -it took me a few hours to get the hang of it again).

I agree, the trick to kicking ass in that game is to never use the Automatic (though, you can win with automatic in the Super Monaco GP mode). Of the manual gears I prefer the 7-gear because it makes down-gearing more specific (and who gives a fuck about killing the transmission... I've never done it).

However, I do have an answer to your problem -because I noticed the same thing when I first played the game. Like most people I played the game with Automatic at first, but I thought it was silly to have the brake and accelerator separate from the directional pad when I naturally press up anyway. So I changed the control scheme in options. That same logic applies to manual transmission: the game is much easier to play, IMO, when you change the control scheme to make up/down the accelerator/brake and the A/B buttons up/down shift (with C remaining "enter pit"). Try that scheme, you'll like it because it doesn't mess up your steering. The only potential problem is braking becomes a little less strong (since on turns you'll tend to do diagnol-downs as you enter and then diagnol-ups as you exit). I've never tested the brake as a separate button, so the braking quality could be the same.

One final bit of trivia: Most people don't realize that Super Monaco GP was the highest-rated game in EGM (up to that point). They gave it 9/10/9/10. A score only matched by SF2 (SNES).

An underrated classic, no doubt!

Thanks i'll try it out, and force myself to get used to it. In premise I love the game but so far i'm so used to MD Outrun & Super Hang on that im always using diagonals for corners and end up dropping th engine out in Monaco GP. Probably more to do with my untamed gaming style but i'm sure i'll get used to gears on the buttons.

Great game, last i heard "they" were developing an S Monaco GP "simualtor" Emu because it uses its on proprietory hardware or some shizzle.

One of my favorite games for my Genny ever...

Use a standard Sega or Ascii joystick. They will do wonders. Never had a problem shifting with them.

Aw yeah, I used to play it to death. That game EARNED those 10's from EGM...
(this was before they handed 'em out according to how heavily hyped a game was)...

I'm not sure about that, Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2 are excellent games.

I side with Loopz on this one. After '90 or '91, EGM went to Biasville, Idbuyit 90210

So those reviews of NGPC (Last Blade 8.0, etc.) were bias? :smirk:
